The volleyball team had an up- and-down season this year, and when the last spike had been spiked and the final serve had been served. the team had won five matches and lost seven. The girls finished the season in fourth place in the Ross County League. with a record of 2-4. This season marked the end of the R.C.L., as next year the team will be competing in the Scioto Valley Conference. This season was the first in the history of Ohio women's athletics which ended with a high school State Championship volleyball tournament. Unioto was defeated by Adena in the first game of the sectional tournament. Adena went on to win the Class A State M, I .mx if N QW. V , .... The leading scorer for the var- sity team was Annette Stauffer, and Lynn Blevins took the trophy for most sets. Tammy Nelson was presented with the Sportsmanship Award by the Unioto Boosters Club. The Junior Varsity team boasted a 9-3 win-loss record for the 1975 season. Robin Smith was awarded the trophy for most points, Barb Scholl was awarded the trophy for most sets, and Becky Mackley most spikes. Unioto hosted the first Junior Varsity Invitational Tournament. In 1975 Coach Leoma Straight led the girls, varsity tennis team to its best season ever. Nine wins and two losses. Julia Davis who played second singles, received the trophy for the best won-loss record, with a record of 10-l. Susan Kozar, Peg Scholl. and Crystal Titler all three won awards for the best record in dou- bles play. The Booster Sports- manship Award went to Jackie Rahe by vote of the reserve and varsity teams. 1975 also marked the first year that a statewide tournament for tennis was held in Ohio. Unioto was defeated in the first round by Whitehall with a score of 2-3. Although the reserve team played a limited schedule they developed valuable experience for the future.
