DO YOUHA VEA SPINAL DISEASE? lt may sound strange. but this year. the eighth grade gym class did more than just learn the fun- damentals of various sports. They learned how to check for a spinal disease called Scoliosis Sco- liosis appears at the age of 12-13. A doctor from Portsmouth visited Unioto and screened the eighth grade girls for the disease. since Scoliosis is I0 times more com- mon in girls than in boys. When detected in time, Scoliosis can be treated and corrected. The pur- pose of the visit was to help teach people in the county to be able to detect the disease themselves. So, if you ever have to check and make sure that you don't have a spinal disease. just contact one of the eighth grade girls to show you how. ill and 123 Everything checks out O.K. for this one. next. t3l and 143 lt looks like another active gym class is in session. fi w- . HOME EC. START PLA YSCHOOL What do you have to go through to be a Home Ec. veteran? Sew the legs of your pants together? Have the juniors prepare dinner for seniors who simply adore them? Iron a hole in your finished outfit? Since we learn by our mistakes. Home Ec. saves those unsus- pecting bachelors from being the taste-testors for their new homemakers experiments. This year marked the beginning of a playschool for small preschoolers. The children spent part of the day being entertained by some talented story-tellers from the Home Ec. depart- ment and was a big success. tllA stitch in time. . . can save a lot of embarrassment. t2l Winner of the Betty Crocker Award. Microscopes and test tubes can be just as interesting as basketballs or typewriters. From Chemistry to Biology to Physics A what other courses could teach you the tech- nical side of life better than science courses? After all. where else can you examine a fish brain, play with a slinky. or list everything your senses can detect from a burning can- dle?
