With great respect we dedicate this annual to Mrs. RUTH TERRILL who has been our Home Economics Instructor and F.H. A. Advisor for the past five years. Mrs. Terrill was a friend and helping hand to everyone who sought her. She was modest of her many achievements, humble despite all honors bestowed upon her. Her pleasing personality and ceaseless ambition will never be replaced. May God bless her. The BOARD OF EDUCATION members are Frank Schuch, Mar- vin Louis, Milton Baur, Karl Ewald, Vernon Zimmer, Murvin Ainsworth and Clarence Wildner. MISSING: ROBERT MUR- RAY-Math. UNIONVILLE STRIVES Captain of the Varsity Basketball Team is Ron Buzz' Bedore (bottom right) with Loran VanBevem as the Honorary Captain (bottom left). Basketball took a surprising leap forward this year, as the Eagles came up with what had to be regarded as the surprise team of the league. Led by sharp-shooting captain Ron Bedore, who went on to become Unionville's first All-Stater in this sport, the Eagles sported one of the highest scoring averages in the area, although a spotty de- fensive record kept them in trouble. Their final 8-9 won-loss mark was was dulled only by a slump that saw them eliminated in the district finals in a 70-66 thriller. The 9-6 mark of the JV's spelled some valuable help for future varsity squads although a small freshman turnout marked what may become a future lack of depth. On the junior high level, the 8th grade had a 4-2 mark and the 7th graders compiled a 5-1 record but both showed signs of an old Unionville problem. . .lack of height. MACHINE CO. UNIONVILLE The varsity footballers compiled a deceptive . 500 record with 4 wins and 4 losses against unusually strong com- petition, as the Western Thumb con- tained more real powerhouse teams than in any previous year. The Eagles merit was rewarded when they were selected for the Saginaw News All- Area team award in Class D. The football JV's, with the small- est turnout in history, still managed to compile a 4-3 won-loss record and provide some good prospects for the future. The bright spot, football-wise was the undefeated 5-0 mark of the junior high. Veteran observers felt that this was one of the best 7th 8th grade squads in the history of the school, and all eyes will be on their future de- velopment. The Co-Captains of the Football Team are Larry VanHoost, Defen- sive, and Bill Koepf, Offensive. FOR VICTORY The members of the VARSITY BASKETBALL TEAM for 1963-64 are BACK ROW, LEFT TO RIGHT: J. HAS SUCCESSFUL LOG CABIN GROCERY In track, UHS confounded the early season experts with a strong showing, including a third place finish at the power-laden Central Michigan relays and a fourth place showing in the State Finals. While injuries and illness contributed to a narrow 1 1 2 point loss in the conference, the squad captured the C-D Invitational and continued its domi- nation of the Regionals. k The JV's continued their complete mastery of everyone except Akron-Fair- r'r - grove but several events show possibility for future weakness. The Junior High ended in 5th place in the Invitational but did come up with two record breaking performances in the high jump and 220 relay. AKRON SPRING SEASON FARVER’S MARKET QUANICASSEE The varsity baseball team showed surprising strength, even though hampered by early injuries and ineligibilities, to end up in fourth place in the league. The closeness of the race is shown when one notes that only 4 runs stood between the Eagles and the top.. .. two one-run defeats and a two-run loss to Kingston. High light of the season was a convincing win over arch-rival Sebewaing and the last game defeat of Mayville which forced a tie for the league title. The JV's came through with a 5-1 record, missing a perfect season when they dropped their final game in a walk-filled, error-ridden contest that nullified their usual fine batting. While the junior high did not play any outside games, inter-squad encounters disclosed several good prospects for future years, both at bat and in the field.
