Senior History On September 7, 1948, forty-three Freshmen assembled in the Study Hall of Unionville High School to continue up the ladder of education. A class meeting was held with the aid of our class advisor, Mr. Crawford. Elected as our first officers were: Larry Germain, President; Duane Guenther, Vice-President; Nancy Spannagel, Secretary; Raymond Baur, Treasurer. When we returned as Sophomore, our class had decreased to forty-two. Somehow the top seemed closer. We elected the following officers: Raymond Baur, President; Donald Jahr, Vice-president; Christine Crawford, Secretary; Jack Hofmeister, Treasurer. Miss Fawn was our class advisor. Forty-two Juniors returned the following year. Now we just needed a few more guided steps to reach the top of that ladder. With Mr. Laundra as our class advisor, we elected as our officers: Raymond Baur, President; Janet Bosley, Vice-president; Betty Niedrich, Secretary; Jack Hofmeister, Treasurer. On April 6, 1951, we presented a three act comedy entitled, Birds of a Feather. Not only was our play a success, but an experience for our aspiring actors and actresses. On May 25, 1951, we held a Junior-Senior Prom, the first at Unionville for some time. Both classes enthusiastically participated to make it one of the standout events of the year. Now, at last, the top was very close. We were grateful to our teachers for their aid in helping us to achieve so much in our last three years. The following class officers, with the help of Mr. Cartwright, led our class of forty Seniors through our last year here: Raymond Baur, President; Jo Ann Fischer, Vice President; Lois Guerrero, Secretary; Jack Hofmeister, Treasurer. To raise money for our Senior trip to Washington, D.C., which took place in May, we produced our Senior play, a three-act comedy entitled, No Bride for the Groom. We also sold Christmas and all occasion cards, gave bake sales, and sold refreshments at the annual F.F. A. and F.H. A. Fair and at the ball games. We looked forward to working with the Juniors on the Junior-Senior Prom in the late spring. And now we have reached the top rung of our first ladder of education. There will be others to climb and we will do our best to reach the top. Again, we are thankful to all our teachers who with their guidance, made our graduation possible. Good luck to the Seniors of next year, and may they have as much fun as we have had in our last year at U.H.S. We will surely miss it. 12 Juniors BACK ROW: Harvey Lick, Jack Beatenhead, Gerald Stevens, Leroy Lehner, Alvin Lapak, Jerald Fader, Dale McShane, Elmer Scharich, Kenneth Irion, James Wing, Ted Christian, Charles Black. The F.F.A., under the leadership of Mr. Elwood Mellinger, is made up of fifty-six members. The F.F.A. and F.H.A. Fair was held on October 18-19, in the high school audi- torium. (This proved to be a worthwhile project). The Green-Hand Initiation was held at Cass City on Nov. 12 in a joint meeting. Twenty-six members were initiated. The first annual Parent-Son Banquet was held in the Unionville High School auditorium on December 17. The guest speaker of the evening was Robert Nemick of Elsie, president of the Michigan Future Farmers of America. Six boys, Laurence Beatenhead, Keith Kuhne, Joyce Wood, Edmund Vargo, Donald Hinman, and Jerry Singer, discussed the success of the Parent-Son Banquet on WBCM on February 23, 1952. The F.F.A. Basketball Team was un- defeated this season. The record stands at 7 wins and 0 losses. 22 The F.H.A., sponsored by Miss Ruth Paine, and our Chapter mothers, Mrs. Ealy Ackerman, and Mrs. Glen Haggitt, has a total membership of sixty-seven. Our emblem, which is red and white in color, symbolizes better homemakers for the homes of to- morrow. One of the opening events of the year was the Regional Convention held at Saginaw Arthur Hill on October 6. On October 13, members of the F. H. A. and the F. F. A. went to East Lansing to a football game. At one of our night meetings we had a scavenger hunt with prizes awarded to the winners. We also sponsored a Sadie Hawkins Dance in F ebruary. With only two boys back from last year's co-champs, everyone had UHS pegged for a lean year. After a slow start, this green, inexperienced but eager crew began to mesh into a unit that provided headaches for the opposition. Spirit and enthusiasm were evident all year. In addition, an unusually fine balance of scoring power showed up which seemed to uncover a different high point man each game and resulted in an offense which no one could afford to ignore. Without a doubt, the season finale with Mayville was the highlight of the year. Both teams had identical records of 10-1 and the league title rode on the game. In a superbly played game the Eagles came through in true championship style. The JV squad also came home a winner as they battled through to the co- championship of their league, winning 10 games and losing 2 with an overall record of 13-4 for the season. The Junior High squad made it a clean sweep of the Little 7, as they took their league crown and piled up an undefeated overall total of 8 victories and no losses. Cartwright is on the search for a third baseman, short stop, and second baseman, as only Jerry Stevens remains at first from last season's slick fielding combination. Last year's outfield of Marvin Kramer, Lynn Houthoofd, and Jerry Fader returns intact but may be pressed by some good looking prospects from the freshmen and returning minor lettermen.
