.-N 1 ,W fr f N 0 SENIORS!-WHO ARE THEY? QBy Ella Margaret Hollandj S- Seniors! Who are they. This is almost the first question asked by the Freshmen upon entering High School. Now why should they want to know who the Seniors are 'I It is because, during their elementary schooling, they are given vivid accounts of the treatment Freshies receive at the hands of the lofty persons who are about to receive their diplomas. So they come to the conclusion that Seniors ar'e not to be tampered with, and that they, as Freshmen, must run at their beck and call. Have you ever known a class of Freshmen in which none feared the Seniors '? That may be doubted for if they will not admit it they will show it at recita- tion time if a Senior is present They say the Seniors are concerted and think they own the school but after all havent they accomplished some thing of which they can rightfully be proud P And isn t it only natural that they should feel ownership rn the school when they have worked there for four years? But let us consider the Senior s version of his position He enters High School as a Freshman with the foregoing ideas concerning Seniors As he advances from Freshman to Sophomore from Sophomore to Junior he begins to experience the difficulties of a High School career and he soon realizes that things are not what they seem At last he rs a Senior but where is that high and mighty feeling? He has attained his last year in High School without acquiring the least bit of haughtrness and this is the reason He has reached the final stage only after passing the first three while experiencing a great many hardships Four years have in spired in him a frlial feeling for his Alma Mater, and when he begins to 1B Rah -ul consider how soon he must part with the dear old school he realizes how much or how little effort it has cost him to attain his position. At this stage in a Senior's life his heart rs filled with delight for he knows he is going out into the world, a raw l'6CI'l.11t, perhaps to place his name among the renowned. Who knows 'Z At any rate he's going to make some place for himself in the world. On the other hand, the Senior year is the most difficult to pass lLll1'0L1gl1. 'lhe Senior realizes that only tll1'0l1gl'1 work can he get along in this world, so he puts away those childish toys and takes up the reins of life with a gr rm and austere deter mrnatron He tolls on and first one lesson, then another Lach one arms to place his name as high as possible on that list of honor students There is no time in the life of an ambitious Senior to think of tormenting the lower classmen More important is sues claim his attention Such is the spirit of a faithful Senior At last the great day the final day arrives Commencement in all its glory 'lhe great auditorium fills with spectators friends and loved ones of the graduates In files the long line of Seniors clothed in graduation robes each eager to receive that docu ment which will admit him to a higher plain of life and education The program ends and each is presented with his diploma his Alma Nlater s parting word After this last good bye they leave the platform to meet their parents, who greet them with eyes filled with pride a perfect end to such a course Seniors' Who are they?
