so e , . Q Q - X x 5 i If Foreword Perhaps the happiest days of a young person's life a1'e those which he spends in high school. Jolly, carefree, with just enough learning that he may see the beauties of life without his gaze falling upon many of its ugly places, the high school student spends four incomparable years re- velling in the dawn of his career. It is for this student that his book has been published. The sole thought of the editors has been to assemble a picture of the period, to catch :yi breath of the spirit, the undefinable sentiment, that has pervaded throughout the days when Uniontown High claimed us as hers, and to pre- sent to the students both picture and sentiment so interwoven as they ha.ve been in the days just past. Whether they have been able to do this is left for the reader to judge. They have done their bestg thy could do no more. They have no apologyg they but ask the reader to remember that this is their first effort as journalists, and that they make no claims to perfection. To thank individually all those who have helped to make the-book the kind it is would be an endless task. The editors wish that they might start and finish that they might thank each and eveiy one who has lent aid oi support toward the work But after thanking the student body whose almost unanimous back ing of the project gave the staff both material and inspiration for the task and after expressing the giatltude due to the advertisers whose financial aid saw the book completed it IS felt that expressed appreciation must be br ought to a close Where the editors have been compelled to close howevel the stu dents may continue if they will show the same spirit of willingness to help by their patronage those advertisers who have helped 1n one of their en deavors as they have shown in their activities in the school A word about the rather novel art scheme of the book Coal IS the root of all material good in the county in which Uniontown High School students dwell They are fed sheltered clothed with the profits derived directly or 1nd1rectly from the vast beds of black diamonds which are de posited far beneath their feet And so to the mine and the miner they owe much of all they haye Is lt not entirely fitting then that this book the first it is hoped of many annuals should in some way show the source of the wealth which made it possible? At the time this was written it seemed very doubtful that the annual would make its appearance before the close of school To give excuses would be of no use the editors stop by saying that they are sorrv They ask that the readers remember that the staff IS composed of high school students even as they liable to mistakes As time wears on may the stu dents take the book for what it is worth not iemembei it as the book that was late For the editors hope that they have assembled here a lemembi ance of high school davs that will never die a book that will be read with enjoy ment not onlv for the book itself but for the many happy memoiies which it surelv will recall when time will have passed with her griefs and Joys and will hay e come to those days when memories mean so much F01 if the editors have done this they have accomplished their purpose UNT? , gym..
