I I i A 4 1 5 3 I 1 i f a 1 E 1 UNIO Early settlers came to the Union District area soon after the Gold Rush. On November 3, 1863, plans for a schoolhouse were made. Our nation was fighting the Civil War at this time, and the homeowners expressed their political sentiments by naming the newly formed dis- trict in honor of the Union. IDDLE Union became a middle school three years ago when the sixth grades were added to the junior high school. The middle school is a division between elementary school and high school. SCI-IOCDL The first Union School burned in 1872, so a new school was built on land donated by Mr. Chris Scho- field. The new school, which had a hog tight' fence, was built where the Union School District Office stands today.
