UNION HIGH SCHOOL Roosevelt, Utah CONTENTS Student Life Faculty Classes Organizations Activities Personalities Sponsors Lithographed by COMMUNITY PRESS Provo, Utah HAPPINESS ...was learning 5 ...was physical activity ...was developing new skills All who have meditated on the art of governing mankind have been convinced that the fate of empires depends on the education of youth. — Aristotle 13 HAPPINESS... ... was returning to the long halls and crowded classrooms of our old friend Union High. This was her eighteenth year of serving the students in the Uintah Basin area. 14 ... indeed, was the addition of the Uintah Basin Area Vocational Center to Union s campus. The facilities are all the very latest avail- able and are beneficial not only to us, but to students from the surrounding schools as well. This Center also provides many adult education classes. 15 . . . was welcoming Mr. Orvel Hullinger as the new Principal. We have found that Mr. Hullinger is a very devoted man and be- lieves strongly in doing the job he was hired for; namely, promoting and furthering the growth and development of Union. Mr. Hullinger has done an outstanding job this year and we are looking forward to the continued growth of Union through him. 16 . . . was the addition to our faculty of Mr. George Thatcher as Director of the Uintah Basin Area Vocational Center. The Center will be of great benefit to the people of our area in the vocational fields. Mr. Thatcher is very enthused about the Center and has been eager to help the students. .. . was greeting familiar faces. Dan Q. Berry Gordon Eldredge J. Excursions such as ex- ploring the Whiterocks Cave and other trips were undertaken. Members of the F.H.A. are girls interested in serving, cooking, homeliving and other aspects of homemaking. Through the united efforts of the of- ficers and Mrs. Leavitt, the advisor, many activities were planned and carried out. The mock election held in the fall was very successful. The F.H.A. also sponsored the Harvest Ball and the Traffic Dance in the fall. For spring activities the “Around The World Banquet was held with the theme country being Iran, and the annual Preference Ball which is a girls' choice dance being the main activities. Through these and other well planned activities the members became acquainted with each other and attained a knowl- edge of homemaking. Editor-in-Chief of the Student Reunion discuss a recent issue The Press Club, sponsored by the Journalism Department have enjoyed struggling with their long hours, desper- ately trying to meet the deadline , getting the Student Reunion out monthly. Also, they have handled the Cougar Chatter published weekly in the Uintah Basin Standard and the Cougar Call” aired over radio station KVEL. Each reporter has a beat and tries to keep it covered” for all news media. The Student Reunion has been printed downtown this year, but the journalists have also become acquaint- ed with thetechniqueof the mimeographed paper by each one publishing an individual one-edition newspaper under his own name with each being his own editor, sports reporter, feature writer, and com- plete staff for his own paper. Some fun! (They did survive in spite of what they thought!) UNION HANDBOOK A very useful handbook containing a great deal of vital information was prepared by: Orlie Rachele. Wayne Ross. Our purpose is to promote girls athletic activ- ities within our school, as well as competi- tion with other schools. A track meet we held in the spring to which all high schools in our region were invited. We hope this year's activities will be just a beginning in the field of girls' athletic events at Union.
