THE FRESHMEN On the bright sunny day of September 9, 1940, a group of seventeen shy students entered the large assembly to be stationed there for the school year. Our class organized by electing these officers: Dorothy Douglas, President: Laurene Du- rnar, Vice President: Phyllis Hoaglin, Secretary-Treasurer: Edna. Murphy, Reporter. Mr. Bailey was our sponsor. After a few weeks of study, we were greeted by a group of jolly Sophoniores at the home of Ruth Mefferd for a hale and hearty initiation party. We were unfortunate, however, to lose three classmates between November and Janu- ary. George Henibrecht quit school to move to Indiana. Earl Rickard moved near Detroit yvhere he is continuing his schooling. Doris McCandlish left us in January and moved to Tif- fin, Ohio. We were sorry to lose them because it left our class with an enrollnient of four- teen tseven boys and seven girlsl. As one of our English projects, Mr. Schafer had us each write an essay on Lincoln and the Constitution to compete in a State Contest. Two essays, one girls and one boy's were selected from each class. Ours were Laurene Duniar's and Ersel Rice's. Throughout the year several roller skating and house parties were enjoyed by the class.

I6 'Wm Www SOPHOMGRE CHATTER The Sophomore Class sftarted out the new year with Carl Cook as president, Ronald Rase as vice president and'Glenn Knerr as seeretary-treasurer. At the beginning of the term we found that we had a new classmate, Mary Bernieee Woods. Several weeks later another joined us, Holiert Cooke, from Rhode Island. We had happy times at our skating' parties and house parties. There were also unhappy times, lietter known as exams which came up at regular intervals. Two of our nienihers were honored with scholarship letters for earning' places on the county scholarship team. They were tllenn Knerr who took lirst place in Biology and Ruth Metferd with second place in Sophomore English. We are all looking' l'orward to next. year when we will greet each other as juniors and take part in junior activities.
