Secretaries Shown above are the secretaries that stu- dents see humming around the office. Mrs. Palmer is Mr. Rowland's secretary. The cheery voice we hear over the loudspeaker each morning is hers. Mrs. Penwell is the busi- ness secretary. She usually is there to answer any questions and help club treasurers make out their deposit or warrant slips. Mrs. Morgan is Mr. Boggs' efficient secretary, handling any questions concerning college. To the right is pictured Mr. Houk's secretary, Mrs. Lois Woodring, who works in the elementary build- ing. Below her is Mrs. Clara Ingham, our Book- keeper and secretary to the Board Secretary. Also pictured is Mrs. Elsie Palkovich, assis- tant bookkeeper. These women are often be- hind the scene, but deserve much credit for all the work they do. 10

Administration An Administrator’s work is never done. Mr. Clayton Houk, Mr. Paul Rowland, and Mr. Jack Boggs are the three busi- est people in Union Area High School. Mr. Houk must supervise three schools with their various problems. Mr. Rowland sees that we get the best possible education through our teach- ers and classroom facilities. Mr. Boggs plans schedules for some nine hun- dred-odd students every year. In addi- tion to these mentioned, our Adminis- trators have countless other responsi- bilities. These loads are heavy, and to bear them in such a fine way deserves much credit. Running a school system is no small job. Education is perhaps the most important field in our time, for from education comes knowledge; and knowledge is the key that will unlock the doors of poverty, ignorance, dis- ease. and the other problems the world faces to let in the light. Our Ad- ministrators’ jobs are quiet jobs. They are not rewarded for their work with medals or shouting crowds. They are rewarded by seeing us make the world a better place through the knowledge that they have had a part in giving us. Mr. Clayton Houk. the Supervising Principal of all Union Area Schools, is our busiest Administrator Our High School Principal is Mr. Paul L. Rowland. This is his second year with us. Mr. Jack Boggs is the hardworking Guidance Counselor who helps us toward a bright future. 9
