8 -07 NO PEACE FOR BEIRUT — Twenty-three were killed when a car bomb hit the U.S. Embassy in Beirut. The tragedy was followed by questions about security measures. OLYMPIC CHAMPIONS — ft CURRENT IEVIENT5 The U.S. won more Olympic medals than any other country in the Summer Olympics at Los Angeles. Two superstars were Carl Lewis, who won four gold medals in track events, and Mary Lou Retton, the first American woman to win an individual gymnastics Olympic medal. PURPLE PRINCE — One of the hottest new musical artists of 1984, Prince rocketed to the top with his nationwide tour and his first movie, Purple Rain. 97-ft WHERE'S THE BEEF? — Clara Peller, age 80, immortalized the phrase Where's the beef? with her TV commercials for Wendy's. SWEET NEWS—Dr. Daniel Azarnoff proudly displayed a molecular model of the artificial sweetener NutraSweet. Thirty-seven years ago. armed with a business education degree from West Liberty College and a genuine capacity to care. Miss Tiano began a career that would touch the lives of countless students, preparing each and every one for a business career. Unfortunately for all those who have not had the chance to benefit from her skill and experience. Miss Tiano retired this year, teaching her last day on June 4. 1985. But her memory remains strong at Burgettstown. As Mrs. Tershel. who worked closely with her for many years, says. Tammy Jones. Tricia Yanm On April 4. 1985. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Pusateri and the Burgettstown Spanish Club flew Swiss Air to Zurich. Switzerland and then to Madrid, arriving on Good Friday. In Toledo, they visited the 13th century Gothic Cathedral. El Greco's home, and El Prado museum. In Sevilla, the students visited the ancient fortress palace, the Alcazor and the 13th century Cathedral of Sevilla. The students traveled to the coast of Africa and Tangiers. The stay at Malaga was a highlight of the trip. March 16. the finalists for the Climax Scholarship met in our high school lobby. After the photographs were taken, the finalists trav- eled to the Sheraton Hotel at Station Square where they waited for the individual interviews. Later the finalists ate lunch at Houlihan’s in the Station Square and enjoyed free time to browse through the shops. Also, the students were treated to the Ice Capades and dinner at the U.S. Steel Building’s Top of the Triangle. Andrew Hoberek and Jean Salvatore were selected by the panel as the winners. This contest was coordinated by Mr. Pat Yanni. who is the Director of pupil personnel services. The students were made aware of the competition through the English Department of the school, it was open to students in grades 10 through ft. The awards were presented by Ken Haspel at a dinner held on Saturday. December 15 in the Slovan VFW. Five persons from our community were selected as judges. We predicted a successful season, even though we only had three returning starters on offense and defense. All things considered, the team needed to mature quickly and execute to perfection. Mr. Onderick felt we could play with any team at our level of competition. The latter was a worthwhile hypothesis for indeed we did compete with the best, and were in every game.
