Varsity-UgBoys AA. Ftball. Baseball. P ' -... lik:-ijI!MlQ'f lf . . VV.. . Cfadd .ilidfory 4 In September of 1961, a new group of bewildered and excited eighth graders en- tered Union High School. The first task they encountered was the election of class officers. They chose Ed Guna, Donna McClain, and Leslie Smith as president, vice-president, and secretary- treasurer respectively. Their first social event was the traditional Halloween Party. The eighth graders became acquainted with their fel- low students by engaging in many activities. The highest award offered was the American Legion Award, won by Ed Guna, Jere Antonetti, Patty St e ven s on, and Judy Petricca. The Freshman Class started the year well by electing the following class officers: president, Ed Guna: vice-president, G ary Wetzelg secretary-treasurer, Rick Yaco. A successful dance followed the annual fresh- man hayride which was held on rainy night in October. The boys participated in sports in hope of preparing themselves for future years on the varsity teams. The girls showed their enthusiasm for becoming socially ac- cepted by engaging in many activities such as: band, chorus, and other clubs. Some stu- dents showed their scholastic ability by being inducted into the Junior Honor Society. The class of sophomores came back without any hesitation to pick up their school activities where they had left it before the months of summer vacation. These students elected Ed Guna, Bonnie Lou Boni, and Tony Bertolotti to the class officerships. The class's biggest social event was the Sopho- more Party. This dress-up affair was com- prised of dancing, entertainment, and re- freshments. Cheering for their first time were Bernie Fuller, Paulette Guiddy, Susan Halulko, Donna Holland, Barbara Waltl, and D'ar l e n e Wa y s o n. The vacancies on the majorette squad made vacant by the gradu- ating class of the previous year, were filled by Linda Carr, Renee DeSanto, and Cindy Petrel. The Junior Year was one that the mem- bers ofthe Junior Class' will long remember and cherish. To lead the m they cho s e as president, Dave Bundy, vice-president, Lew Schoolesg secretary-treasurer, Rudy Tepsicg and Rick Yaco to the athletic council. The Junior Class showed their outstanding ability as business men and women by being the first class to surpass the goal of their magazine campaign by such a large margin. This goal, which was set at S2500 was exceeded by 5643. Class rings were selected and ordered. The class play entitled, It Happens Every Summer, under the di- rection of Mr. Brozier, was considered a success. The highlight of the year was the Junior-Senior Prom, entitled Elysia. The prom was well attended, andagood time had by all. Some 190 seniors embarked on the last mile of high school in the fall in 1965. For the final time, they selected the following class officers. Ed Guna was elected presi- dentg Rick Yaco, vice-president, and John Gelestor, secretary-treas urer. In the sports field, Ed Guna was awarded the coveted McElhaney Trophy for his out- standing character, service, and citizen- ship. The senior play, Sight Unseen, di- rected by Miss O'Hern, was judged a suc- cess. The students can all have fond memories of the Senior banquet and the good time they had there. As we enter the twilight of our high school career, our hearts are filled with many che ris he d memories of the past few years.
