Their first duty as at group was to elect class officers. Those chosen to lead were Albert Sella, president: Robert Delamontagne, vice-president: and Dolores Harshey, secretary-treasurer. The students demonstrated enthusiasm for extracurricular activities with the boys participating in various sports and the girls becoming active members of several clubs. The class also excelled in studies. Re- warded for their years' hard work were: Carol Gould, Gloria Kemp, George Danek, 'and Carl Jeffrey by their selection as recipients of the American Legion Awards. , , Returning as Freshmen the students again set out to further their education. The tally of ballots revealed the student's choice of Carl Jeffrey for presidentg Kathie Homitz as vice-president: and John Guna for secretary-treasurer. The highlight of the social season was the traditional Freshman Hayride on October sixth. Returning from the hayride, the students converged on the gymnasium to have refresh- ments and trip the light fantastic. ' The boys again reported out for sports in hopes of preparing for future years on the varsity teams. Many girls exhibiting enthusiasm for these sports, entered cheerleader try- outs. Those chosen were: Patty Baronick, Carol Ann Black, Christeana Diamond, Sandy Haspel, Kathie Homitz, and Pam Tyler. The students returned to school in late August to begin their first year of. Senior high school, The elected officers of the Sophomore class were: Ken Gavazzi, presidentg Richard Ward, vice-president: Carl Jeffrey, secretary-treasurer. The c1ass's biggest social event of the year was tlieQSophomore party. This dress-up affair was comprised of dancing, entertainment, and refreshments. The highlight of the evening was the coronation of John Guna and Paula Tucci as Sophomore King and Queen. As spring returned, tryouts for various activities were held. Peggy Clair, Dianna Drazick, and Patti Patsolic were added to the Union majorette squad and Anna.Kathryn Vajentic was chosen to fill the vacancy on the cheering squad, made vacant when Sandy Haspel moved. The opening of school in late August found the class of 1962 ready to become upperclassmen. The first duty of the Juniors was the election of officers. The students elected were: Carl Jeffrey, president: Charlotte Boller, vice-president: and George Danek, secretary-treasurer. For their first financial endeavor, the class staged the traditional magazine campaign. The result of this campaign was a treasury from which to take funds for the various class projects. The class again was represented on the sports' scene with many of the boys being awarded letters. Dino Boni highlighted our representation by becoming runner-up to the champion in the P.I.A.A. Wrestling tournaments. The Egg and I was presented as the class play in early April. Later in the same month the Junior party was held in the theme, April in Paris. The highlight of the social year. was the Junior-Senior Prom. Sponsored by the Juniors, the theme of Sea Fantasy was selected. As developed by the selected committees, the event was considered a night to remember by all who attended. 1 Some 14 7 seniors embarked on the last mile of the high school in the fall of 1961. These students elected Carl Jeffrey, John Guna, and Sam Noah to the class officerships. In the sports' field, John Guna was awarded the coveted McElhaney trophy for outstanding ability and sportsmanship on the gridiron. Following tradition, the Senior play was presented, directed by Mrs. Harris. The comedy, under the title of The Boy Who Changed the Wor1d, receivedlaughs from the script as well as from the ad-libs. Now as spring has arrived, the students can all have fond memories of the Senior banquet and the good time they ihad there. As the class of 1962 prepared to graduate and commence 1ife's work each student is certain to forget neither the friends made nor the good times had at Union High School.
