The wrestling season proved to be a learning experience. Each match we entered we tried to improve as a team and individually. Those who stayed on the team through the long season showed tremendous growth as people and athletes. Missing the second place trophy at district (by 1 1 2 points) was disappointing. That should provided the incentive for doing well next season. The six wrestlers that went to state will surely remember the crowds excitement and the tough competition. Personally, I was neither pleased or displeased about the 1978-79 Redside Basketball team. If one compared it to the 77-78 season, one would be pleased. If you compare it to some of the good seasons that Wasco County had, one would be displeased. However, one analizes every season based on its merits. The 78-79 season could have resulted in more wins and kept Wasco County in the battle for the District berth until the very end of the season, but, it didn't. On the other hand, it could have produced fewer wins and no chance in losses. Only on 3 occasions was the team blown out of the game. I commend the players on their efforts, their sweat, bruises, and bumps in attempting to win as many games as possible. I feel confident that we have a good nucleus of good players who are capable of taking Wasco County to the District and State tournaments in future years, beginning with the 1979-80 team. Let's all pull together to make athletics at Wasco County High the best in the state. Coach Mike Saddler J. V. This year's theme was Those Were the Days, and, as in year's past, was a total success, playing to mothers, relatives, and friends of the girls. We the annual staff, would like to say a special thanks to Mr. Bill Mitchke, our advisor. Mr. Mitchke has done very much for the students in his classes as well as in supervising the production of the yearbook each year. A student can come to him for help and he will do his best to help them. Many of his students have taken English from him and didn't particularly like it, but when they left high school, they realized how he'd helped them and thanked him for a job well done. The Annual Staff would never be able to put out a yearbook if it weren't for his cynical eye and great amount of patience. We, the Faculty, Student Body, and the Annual Staff would like to thank you for everything you have done for W.C.U.H.S. in the years past as well as the years to come. Well, we (the annual staff) did it to ourselves this year. The annual is all put together and ready to mail, but, upon final inspection, we find there is a layout page missing. There are no pictures-no negatives in the darkroom for a last minute printing, and all involved are too far spread out to get together for a picture-so-we do without. Woe on us for having the wheel, finally, come full turn. The Annual Staff for '78-'79 was made up of: Danny Keillor- Pat Cook-Susan Gutzler-Mary Lou Moore-Chuck Murchie-Galen Reese-Harold Weaver-Mr. Mitchke- Editor-in-chief, photographer, layout tech., film processing tech.
