MISS CONTEST In the fall of 1977, RaNeva Keo, 18, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Levi Keo, was chosen as the first Southern Wasco County JR. Miss. This contest was sponcered by the Southern Wasco County Jayceetts as one of their first projects. A JR. Miss is chosen by her interview with the judges, talent, poise, and personality. RaNeva represented Southern Wasco County at the state contest in January where she won a special talent award for her poem. CHERRY SWEETHEART CANDIDATE Teresa Gustafson, 17 year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Gustafson, was chosen to represent Wasco County Union High School in the Northwest Cherry Sweetheart Contest. The Northwest Cherry Growers, who sponsor this contest select a girl to represent each of the four high schools in Wasco County. Out of these four, one will be chosen as Cherry Sweetheart to represent the cherry industry of the Northwest. The Sweetheart is chosen by her high impression she makes on the judges during her interview. 34 Football Cheerleaders: Becky Udey, Marcia Nelson, Lisa Gustafson, MaryAnne Delco, Christy Yunker, Shelly Kelm, JoDee Pamperien, Missy Lewis. The Junior class show their spirit during homecoming. WRESTLING This year's wrestling team had a very successful season. They had many accomplishments that were all well earned. Other than ending the season with a winning record, the team also won a 4-way tournament (the first in about six years). They ended the season with a record of 12 wins and 10 losses. Only two seniors wrestled this year. Darryl Keillor (captain) and Larry Peterson. Darryl ended this year with the third best record 16-8-1. He also placed fifth at District at 148 lbs. Darryl ended his high school career with a record of 56-50-2. Larry had a good season going for him until he was injured while wrestling and had to sit out the remainder of the season. He ended the year with a record of 8-5. There were four juniors this year. Jeff Clemens placed fourth at district and had a good season. Bill Ashley placed third and won the award as most improved wrestler. Jeff Parman and Rob Zeigler each had superb seasons. Jeff placed second at district at 136 lbs., and Rob was the Champion at 130 lbs. They shared the best records, 18-3-1 and 17-4-1. Both also shared the award as MOST VALUABLE WRESTLER. Three sophomores helped the team a lot too. Greg Barnhart, and Bryon Bushke had rough weights, but will improve and prove to be key factors of next year's team. Dave Woods had a great year, too. He won the District Championship at 115 lbs. He will also be a key factor on next year's team. The three freshman (Bob Allen, Duane Middleton, and Gil Heideman) each came along way for their first year. Bob placed third at 98 lbs. and Duane placed fourth in the same weight class. As you can see, this year was an exciting one for many people. There were a lot of great moments for the whole team. Even a team with all these great moments, tends to have a few bad ones too. This team was no exception, but everybody stuck together and these hard times passed by quickly. The Cheerleaders deserve a lot of thanks for their time and effort toward helping to keep up the good spirits throughout the entire season. The wrestlers really enjoyed having them as a part of the team. The stats also deserve a lot of thanks for their help. They really have to be alert all the time. This year's stats were: Missy Lewis and Bonnie Pamperien. THANKS 42 FRONT ROW: Coach Hughes, Melissa Alsup, Chris Cook, Laurie Clemens, Dena Clemens. I was pleased with the attitude of the majority of the team members this year. When the going gets tough as it did this year the true character of a team shows through. Inspite of some internal and external dissension, the strength of the team survived and made us closer. This unity and new attitude will be a strong foundation for next year's Redsides. Ambrose Princess 98 We, the Senior Class of 1978, hereby declare this to be our last will and testamony to Wasco County Union High School. To the Faculty, we give our good humor and good luck for their success in teaching in the future years. To the Junior Class, our dignified ways and we hope that they make the best of it as dignified Seniors. To the Sophomore Class, our studious ways and ambitions to get things done right. To the Freshmen Class, our sympathy for losing such a superior class to look up to. I, Mike Ashley, will my ability to stat out of trouble and pass Mr. Mitchke's class to Fish Murchie, and my basketball ability to Tim McAllister. I, Steve DuQuist, will my lunch hour to Brenda Ellis and anyone else who needs them. I, Henry Gabel, will my size to Ralph McLenithan, my harem to Kenneth Martin, my supposed guitar playing ability and the ear for taking directions for songs to Alan Swearingen, my old sox to Pam Keo, and my driving ability to Ron Jones. I, Randy Galliano, will my chemical knowledge to Mark Troxel, my empty chew can to Saint, my motorcycle riding ability to Cliff Ashley, and a free ride anytime in my Bratt to Chris Cook, Melissa Alsup, Marcia Troxel, and Cindy McLenithan. I, Teresa Gustafson, will my locker to Kelly Lindell, a years supply of sandwich bags to Karen Kennedy, my ability to get along with Miss Huskey to Michell Phlips. I, Dave Holman, will my ability to maintain to Chris Boggs, and my rowdiness to Allen Brenden. I, Darryl Keillor, will my golden arm in baseball to Tim McAllister, my position as Yearbook Editor to Mary Lou Moore so she can get revenge on next years staff, my job as photographer to Fred Ashley, so he can use the darkroom for his business affairs, and I will my good common sense and my use of good judgement to Chris Cook, so she won't have so many troubles with the teachers. I, Teresa Lindley, will my old boyfriends to Carla Miller, (who hasn't really done anything to deserve such a fate.). To Leota Hardin, I will my ability to get into arguements with a certain guy. And to the entire Junior Class, I will my rare talent of getting A's in Personal Finance. (Copies of answers for all tests will be on sale soon—group discount available). I, Chris Matteson, will my ability to stat out of trouble in The Dalles and not to run into other peoples shopping carts to Bonnie Pamperien. I, Linda Matteson, will my track ability to Babette Coe and all my old Finance and Citizenship papers books to Kelly Lindell and Debi Ashley. And I also will my ability to stay straight to training to DeWayne Smotherman and Sandy Smith. I also will my secret admirer to Jo Franklin. I, Teresa Moore, will my mellow temperament on the basketball floor to Pam Keo, who falls asleep with the stereo playing full blast, while riding on the players bus. I, Tony Morelli, will my empty Happy Days cans to Bob Harmon, my basketball and track ability to Danny Keillor. I, Cathy Pamperien, will my ability of staying away from school buildings to Elaine Willis, and the talent of always having a good time to the rest of the gang (S.H., L.B., E.W.) I, Cindy Paulson, will my exciting, thrilling memories of Senior Citizenship to Sherrie DuQuist in case she ever gets bored. I also give away those Research Paper blues to Sandy Chamberlain. I give my intellectual brains to Waddles. I, Larry Peterson, will my drinking and partying ability to Harold. My ability to stay out of trouble to Patrick, my perfect attendance to Cathi Coe, and my perfect grades to Brenda Duling. I, Tim Puckett, will my old basketball shoes to Alan Brenden and my shooting ability to Don Heideman. I, Anna Sandoval, will my house to the gang still in school. I, Cliff Satanus, will my ability to get rowdy to Paul Peterson and my ability to sail my BOAT to Clyde and Pat. I, Ben Troxel, will my life savings of $27.53, my entire collection of Wilbur Mayhew Baseball cards (and bubblegum wrappers) and my recording of two armadillos fooling around to T.R. Herbert, a very dear friend of mine. I, Gordon Weaver, will my weatherbeaten Timex watch with the trick second hand that moves when and where it feels like to Carla Miller and I also will Galen (Primo) Reese to Kim Kennedy. I, Becky (Udey) Ball, will my ability to get out of school in a half of a year to Cathi Coe. And my long legs to Ralph McLenithan. 99 AUTOGRAPHS 100 MIKE ASHLEY DARRYL KEILLOR Football 1,2,3,4 Basketball 1,2,3,4 School Paper 3,4 Sports Ed. 4 DEBBIE COOK Track 1 Stat Girls League 1,2,3,4 Band 1,2 Chorus 2,3 STEVE DUQUIST Basketball 1 Baseball 1,2 HENRY GABEL Basketball 1,2,3 Pep Band 1,2,3,4 Stage Band 3,4 Drama 1 Photographer 1,2 Homecoming Wk.
