The Sweetheart is selected because of the high impression she makes upon the judges during her interviews. DeAnna is the seventeen year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dick Koons of Maupin, Oregon. While the Redside Wrestling team was but eleven strong this year, all experienced a great deal of excitement and success. And, even though it wasn't as good as we had hoped for, we still managed to seek out a team record of 8-16-1. Four freshman helped considerably: Jeff Clemens, Jeff Parman, Ernie Smith, and Terry Nelson. Very few guys experience a lot of success in their first year; it takes a great deal of determination to hang in there . These four young men did a good job. Three sophomores, Mark Moran, Darryl Keillor, and Cliff Satanus also did their share. Mark came a long way from his rookie year, and was voted Most Improved by his teammates. Darryl also demonstrated real improvement, and scored team points for us at District. Cliff, in his first year on the mats, did very well in placing second in two tournaments. Tom Ashley was our lone junior this year and did a very fine job. While it was his first year, he sure didn't look it! He did very well in scoring points at District, and will prove a valuable asset to next year's team. Our three seniors all had an outstanding year. Each had established a goal of twenty victories for the season: Gary Conradson finished with twenty; Dale Keillor and team captain Stacey Parman won twenty-five. Dale finished 3rd in District at 106 lbs. and received special honors of Most Team Points (115) and Most Dedicated. Gary didn't place at District, but did score points for us. Stacey had a story book year, highlighted by a District Championship at 136 lbs., and a 5th place finish at State. He received special honors for Most Falls (18), Quick Pin (22 sec.), Most Team Points (115), Most Original Takedown (20), and Outstanding Wrestler of the Year. All three of these young men will be missed next year and we wish them the best of luck in all their future endeavors! A special thanks is due to all who have helped re-establish the Wrestling program at Wasco County Union High School; fans, students, faculty, the wrestlers themselves, and most of all ... to those diet weary Wrestling Moms !
