In keeping with heraldic traditions and attempting to coordinate historical symbols with educational achievements and goals, the following heraldic seal represents the personality of the school and community. The covered wagon portrays the early settlers in this area who came across the Barlow Trail. The mantling surrounding the shield consists of sheaves of wheat, one of the primary agricultural crops of the area. Dividing the shield in thirds is the famed Deschutes River center in center and left, and the Barlow Trail lower right. The top left third represents the lumbering and sawmill industry. The school mascot in the top right third symbolizes the outstanding fishing and related recreation in the area. Below the lamp of learning, are five entwined circles representing five areas of education in academic, athletic, fine arts, vocational, and social. The circles also symbolize the high school district, Maupin, Pine Grove, Shaniko, Tygh Valley, and Wamic. We the annual staff dedicate this yearbook in memory oj Carl and Glen Peterson.
