The peaks lay above us, With snow caps white; Leading us on as Our guiding light. Looking down then The view was dim; Wonder what lies over That high, narrow rim? Up we then climbed O’er croigs and hills; Suffering and learning From all life’s spills. Now we’ve arrived At the peak, our goal; Which for twelve years we've sought With heart, mind, and soul. But many more peaks Ahead we must scale, And these peaks To climb, we will not fail. Remember our motto Your courage will renew. The Wasco County Union High School Band traveled to Prineville to attend the annual Central Oregon Music Festival for high school students with the chorus this year for the second time. Some of our members then proceeded to join the mass band, consisting of students from all of the high schools attending the festival, while others joined the mass chorus. The band had a successful year as far as con- certs go. It played more songs than it ever has before, the number of songs being about nine. The band participated in both the summer and winter concert. Seven of the band members joined together to make a musical group called the Sexy Seven. These members are Dave Anderson, Rogers Murray, Chuck Ritchie, Larry Ward, Joe Miller, John Neely, and Bill Ritchie. 46 BAND GROUPS PEP BAND Front row, left to right: Dal Hammer, Jim Burgett, Larry Ward, Gail Conley, Director Mr. Chamberlin. The Wasco County Union High School Chorus consists of about one half of the students in the school. This is unusual for a small school, so we are proud of our large sized chorus. The chorus traveled to Prineville to attend the music festival there in March. The students then joined the mass chorus which consisted of students from the choruses from such schools as Bend, Redmond, Madras, Prineville, and Burns. The chorus had a successful year, putting on two concerts here in Maupin and one in Dufur. The concert in Dufur was half of the first exchange concert between Dufur and Maupin. In exchange the Dufur High School Band came to Maupin and put on a concert. The exchange concerts were enjoyed by students from both schools, and it is hoped that they will be continued. 48 MUSICAL SNAPS Pep Band in action at a game. The chorus at the Spring Concert. BANQUET We were unable to obtain pictures of the Junior-Senior Banquet this year, so a program follows in hopes that it will help bring back the memories entitled to this occasion. Bill Ritchie, Junior Class President, was the Master of Ceremonies. After the entertainment, which consisted of Marlene and a professional group from Portland, Bill turned the ‘mike’ over to the Senior Class President, Tom Melum, who introduced the members of the senior class who ranked 5th, 4th, and 3rd academically. Marlene Fraley, fifth, then read the Senior Class History. She was followed by Sally Stovall, fourth, who read the Senior Class Will. Sharon Kohl, third, presented the Senior Class Prophecy. The speaker for the evening was Doctor Schlicting from The Dalles. He stressed the importance of being a leader instead of a follower in our present society. Bill then thanked the Seniors for coming and the Junior Class Mothers for preparing the meal. He also thanked Doctor Schlicting and the people who provided the entertainment for the evening. Our congratulations to the Junior Class for the fine banquet. It was well-run and the meal was delicious. JR.-SR. PROM 4 Someone spilled the punch!
