CLASS OF 1897 With the motto We are Seven of '97, the iirst class of College Corner High School, as it was then called, looked forward to the year of graduation. Later we welcomed another classmate, Mary Edna McConnell, who is now Mrs. Gecfrge Wheeler, Xenia, Ohio. She is the mother of three daughters, all of whom have been teachers in public schools: also, in her family are two granddaughters. Another member of the class, Margaret M. MicDill, in 1898 became the wife of Arthur Cleveland. For several years they lived near Ccllege Corner: later they moved to Col- umbus, Ohio: then to Chicago, Ill., their home at this time. Mr. Cleveland is insurance manager of The Pure Oil Co. Their children, two sons and twin daughters, are all mar- ried. Her address is 211 E. Cihestnut street, Chicago, Ill. Two years after graduation, Ottie M. Riclenour married Omar G. Murray of Rich- mond, Ind. She has me daughter and three grandchildren. Mrs. Muzray is interested in art and in travel. She has been abroad several times, her last trip being a world cruise. He: address is '70 S. 15th street, Richmond, Ind. For a number of years she has been curator of prints in the art association of Richmond, Ind. Jessie M. Smith, now Mrs. Harry Hines of Indianapolis, Ind., was valedictorian of the class. She was chairman of the committee applinted to draft the constitution and by-laws of the College Corner High School Alumni Association. Harry L. Stephens married Nona Grace Chrisman of Connersville. Since that time, he has held positions of importance in Fort Wayne, Ind. and Decatur, Ill. For eleven years he has been in the wholesale ilirniture business in Minneapolis, Minn. His only child, Dr. Maynard Moody Stephens, is married and has two daughters. He now has a chair in Penn. State College, Pennsylvania. Harry C. Stewart married Mabel Munns of College Corner. For a number of years he has been a successful contractor and builder in this place. Since graduation, Adelaide Gilmore has taught in the grades and in high schcol in Liberty-Center township. Orville Handley died November 25, 1902. Ruth Andrews married John E. Kauffman of College Corner. They had one daugh- ter, Lucille. Ruth was with this iclass. After studying at Miami University, Oxford, Ohio, she taught in the Union county schools. She completed the requirements of Col- lege Corner high school and was given a diploma in 1926. Mrs. Ruth Andrews Kauff- man, who taught Room Two for several years, passed away July 23, 1926. In the early years of the Union school she had received a diploma from the Teachers Course and in later years one from the State uf Indiana, making her a high school graduate. Accept- ing her credits from Miami Teachers' College and her Indiana diploma the local board granted her a diploma from Union School, thus placing her name on the Alumni Roll. - Adelaide Gilmore. CLASS OF 1898 The class flower of '98 was clematis and the colors were blue and gcld. This was the second class to graduate from Union High. It consisted of eleven member's. The motto was Out of School Life Into Life's School, and they surely have had a thorough education in thirty-eight years of Life School. None have .climbed tcl the top df the ladder, and we hope we have filled our cairner in the world with credit to our Alma Mater. The class roll at the present time is: Murray Bake, proprietor of Bake's General Store in College Corner, is married to Grace Earhart and has two children. His daughter Neva graduated in the class of '31, and his son Louis is a Sophomore. Arthur Buck is a retired mail cazrier. He is married and resides in College Corner. His son Harold is a graduate of Union High. Truman Lackey, retired farmer, now lives in Liberty, Ind. He is married and has one son who graduated at Union High. Truman has a grandson. Luther and Alma Weidner Moor' live in Dayton, Ohio. They have two daughters, and one granddaughter. One daughter is a graduate of Union. Luther holds a respon- sible position with a Life Insurance Co. Pearl Morton Gephart lives in Hamilton, Ohio. Her husband is president of the Second National Bank in Hamilton. Mae Templeton Lefiler resides on a farm near College Corner. She has one son, Marlin, a graduate of Union Schcol in the class of 1928. Mrs. Lizzie Donnell Bogart lives in Indianapolis, Ind. Her husband is an engineer cn the Pennsylvania railroad. She has a son, Paul, who is a graduate of Indianapolis Technical High School. Hattie Cleveland Thompson lives in Warsaw, Ind. Her husband is a painter. She has five daughters, and three grandchildren. Ann Irwin, the youngest member of our class, lives in Peru, Nebraska. She has been connected with the Peru State Teachers College since 1925 and teaches accounting, busi- ness law, and helps with the typewriting. Anna first taught grade work in Franklin county, Ind., for three years: then in Moundville, Missouri. She spent eight years in Chicasaw, Sapulpa, and Muskogee, all in Oklahoma. For four years she taught high school work in Wellington, Kansas. Just previous to coming to Peru she received her B. S. degree from State Teachers College at Warrensburg, Missouri, and her A. M. de- gree from the University of Chicago. Martha Gilmore Woodruff lives on a farm near College Corner. She has three sons, and one daughter, also two grandchildren. - By Mrs. John Woodrui.
