SENIOR CLASS HISTORY 'C We entered Union High School as Freshmen in the fall of 1945. At that time there were 72 members in our class. We elected Miss Huffman as our sponsor, Pauline Smith as Pres- ident, Phyllis Lobaugh as Vice-President, joan Stewart as Secretary, and Angelo Salvo as Treasurer. For one week the Sophomores tortured us with the regular occurrence of initiation, and then they entertained us with a delightful Reception at the end of initiation week. Every- one had a good time at our Halloween party, with only Freshmen present. During the year, we had our tum at presenting two assembly programs, a Hillbilly skit and Dr. I. Q. As Sophomores, we were a little more accustomed to high school life. VVe were no longer scared Freshiesn but sophisticated Sophomores with Mr. Mann acting as our sponsor. Our class officers were Clarence Kough tPresidentJ, Phyllis Lobaugh tVice-Presidentl, Dolores Goodman lSecretaryJ and john Macliinlay tTreasurerD. Now it was our turn to initiate the Freshmen. After the reception their feelings towards us changed considerably. VVe patiently waited for our class rings, and it was a happy day for all when they finally arrived. In the fall of 1947 we entered Union as juniors with Mr. lliwiller and Mr. Bonnett as our sponsors. We elected Ray Hardy as President, Clarence Kough as Vice- President, Betty Mur- ray as Treasurer and Dorothy Womeldorf as Secretary. This yea-r wc found that our class was musicially inclined. There were twenty-three members of our class now in the band, including three Majorettes and one Drum Major. Our junior year was full of great events. W'e successfully presented, Wanted a Hero. Three of our class were chosen for the National Honor Society. The greatest event of the year was yet to come-the junior Prom. This event marked our greatest goal yet to conquer. We attempted and succeeded in having one of the best proms yet to be in our High School. Music was provided by Lee Angelo and his or- chestra. The decorations followed a Dutch theme throughout. Remember our carpenter work on that windmill, girls l l During our Senior year, Miss Russo and Mrs. Matijak were our sponsors. Enrollment dropped to 51 since our Freshman year. W'e elected Clarence Kough as President, Dave Filson as Vice-President, Betty Henderson as Treasurer, and Dorothy XVomeldorf as Secretary. Besides planning for all the events concerning graduation, we gave an excellent presentation of our Senior Play, Dear Ruth, and edited this yearbook. Our school days were hrought to a close with the Baccalaureate and Commencement exercises in May. It's hard to leave Union, after being here four years it means something more than just some place to come every morning at nine, so as we say good-bye, we give our best wishes to the future classes of Union. THE RAM 1949 13
