As Tim Beaty aims for his victim, Mark Houser and Ted Coats watch calmly from behind. The P.E. and Health classes were taught by Mrs. Burton, Mr. I-leller, and Mr. Stephen. The P.E. classes covered units in softball, basket- ball, gymnastics, track, soccer, and various other sports. They were tested for both physical and mental achievement in each unit. The advanced boys P.E. class studied a unit on the duties of an athletic instructor. The health classes heard two speakers this year. One spoke on health related occupations and the other, from the sheriff's department, spoke about drugs. The class experimented with blood typing and studied different group and individual behavior patterns. i Going into great detail, Mr. Stephen attempts to get his point across. Panel Groups And Simulation Games Used By Social Studies Dept. Panel groups and simulation games are just a few of the many activities enjoyed by the students of Union's Social Studies Dept. Movies and filmstrips are also included in Mr. Michael Rawlings' Govern- ment and U.S. History classes. Mr. Rawlings is a first year teacher at Union and a graduate of Ball State. Mrs. Nita Burton teaches World History, beginning with the earliest civilization, continuing through the Crusades, both World Wars, and ending with present day Man. The Government classes studied about the com- plicated functions of the American government dur- ing the first semester. The last half of the year was spent trying to understand the production, distribu- tion, and consumption of goods produced throughout the United States. The U.S. History students are concerned with their nation's history from the American Revolution through the last election. 52-Academics ....h.ff..,..a r--...
