Speech ond Debote As a class which was offered for the first time Speech and Debate caught and held the interest of many junior and senior students this year. This class sponsored the first school play of the year, Rebel Without a Causefi Also for the first time in its history Lnion has sent a group of students to the Speech Conference held at Ball State University and to the Knights of Phythias l uhlic Speaking Contest, Mrs, Keating helps each of her herrin- ning students to gain composure and confidence in public speaking. john acts as technician in the recording of Becky's speech 2 . re. Languages Latin, Spanish, and English are the language classes which Union offers to her high school and junior high students. English Literature is also incorporated in to those English classes offered. This program can prepare students for college classes or for the fluent use of their own language in everyday life. Sophomore English students study the display of poets and poetry Barbara pores over the conjugation of a Latin verb. Sandra and Belinda look over their Spanish magazines. Seventh grade Spanish students gain fluency and practice by pronouncing their words together in class. 20

Sociol Studies Mock elections are a high point in this election year to Learning the role of our government, its functions, and its many Civics and History students. During the election, heritage through the practical experience of trips to the speeches are given, platforms are presented, and the students state legislature and courtrooms gave lVlrs, Wilson's job of follow the normal voting proceedures in casting their hal- teaching the added boost of actual student participation. lots.
