CA., PROPHECY EAR CLASSMATES OF '53: The other day l was loolcing at our GLEAM, which during the past years has collected quite a hit ol dust, and thinlce ing ahout the dillerent ways we, who used to he one hig class, have gone. Since that day so long ago when Mr. .leter linally gave us our diplomas, the paths have led in many directions. Some ol them were quite surprising, some were quite natural, and some just were. Joyce Arthur is now quite a lamous opera star, recently starring in The Loves of Carmen. Joyce isnht the only one in the field ol' entertainment, though. Shirley Gregory and Wayne Harmon have now replaced Sid Caesar and lmogene Coca on T. V. with Ann Treadway writing their script, Barhara XNillJurn and Leroy Estes are stars in their own right in a revival ol silent movies. Phoehe Cowan. alter touring the United States with the Community Concerts as a Concert Pianist. is now sewing as a trustee at Furman. Lulce VVilhurn, who is the leader of the number one hand ol ilu- land. is now malcing plans to open a night cluh on the moon. Danny Lawson, who is hailed as Harry James ilu- second, is still looliing lor his Betty Grahle. Maxine Vaughn alter her role in the Junior Play is starring on Broadway as The Fahulous Red-Head. And have you heard the new recording that Helen Dillls Recording Studio has put out hy the Willard Sisters? But you haven't lived il you've lailed to hear Ann Bowen, who is head vocalist at the Storlr Cluh with her theme song, lt's ln The Boolz. Also l found out U. li. S. is well represented in other lields. Coleman Culhreath is now coaching a team ot Girl filolre Trotters. .lane iiiclcs is one ot the most popular models in New Yorlr. now: and she always models Sandra 'l'immons Originals, which are sold in New Yorlc, Paris, and Griliney. Doris Gwinn has also turned to designing-1 shoes-and they are sold at the new modernistic Dixie Shoe Shop. Doris O'Shields and Sara Cody are head of a training school for cheerleaders, while Joe Haney. who is pitching lor the New Yorlc Yanlrees, is in spring training. and the learn is lodging at the Cross Anchor Hotel ol which .lean Vaughan is proprietoress. Pat Baher, choosing her lathe-r's profession, is now Lady Chiel ol Police, and Dean .lt-nlcins is u highway patrolman. Also from our class we have several famous authors and lecturers. Faye Murplxy and Carol lVlcDade are touring Russia and China giving lectures on How to Grow Red Hair. Bohhy Foster, since he loved twelfth literature so much has now edited another hook on the Literature of England. .linimy Parlcs is selling autographed copies ol his new hoolc, The Sure Cure for laziness and Raymond Satterlield has retired alter reaping his fortune from his hoolc entitled, How to Sleep in Class. .lo Beth Taylor has recently finished a simplilied reversion of Algebra, Book ll to he used in South Carolina high schools. Jeanelle Scott's new etiquette hoolc, which replaced Emily Post's, states that it is permissihle, though not advisable, to chew gum in class. Nearly all of these hoolis are puhlished hy the Godshall liuhlishing liouse, owned hy Ann Godshall. This company sometimes puhe lishes annuals, also. .loan lfdwards is now editor of Chit dren's True Confessions. Morris Young is the owner ol a large tohacco plantation and sells all his crops to tht- malu-rs ol Luiliy Strilie lor whom Hohson Jeter is an auctioneer. Peggy liames went to France. too. to serve as an interperter. hut gave it up to join the chorus at the Cashah. Leonard Stevens has replaced Norman Rockwell on the stalt of Post Magazine and is now drawing their covers. lfdward Rector designs casts, all shapes. sizes, colors. Carole Threatte alter writing the class will has hecome a lawyer and is serving in the Supreme Court. Charlie .lamieson leads a varied lile. Part ot the year he worlcs in his hiain Street estahlishment--C. Jamieson's--the store lor the well- dressed man, and in the other part ot the year he is u carnival harlrer. ilere also. we l-ind Betty Rose Billings, who does a sister act when she isnlt selling candy apples. Bill Sihley. alter completing his worlc at Georgia Tech, has con- structed a hridge across Sugar Creelc so Roy Grady's ron- gregation can get to church every Sunday.
