The first day of school found the band hard at work getting ready for our busy schedule. In September we were requested to play at the Union County Fair at La-Grande. During the fall we played at all home football games and also followed the team to Corvallis for the State playoffs. We provided halftime entertainment by marching for the crowd. In December the Music Department gave a free Christmas concert and were host to a packed house. On April 2 we participated in the Music Festival at Eastern Oregon College in LaGrande where we competed with other class C bands. We received a 1 or Superior rating. On Kay l1 , for the first time in the history of the high school, the band attended the Fea Festival in Kilton-Freewater where we marched in the parade. The summer will consist of a booster trip for the Eastern Oregon Livestock Show, marching and playing at the Livestock Show, and finally playing for the East-West Shriner's Football game to complete the year. K I Oo us f+'A G'«l5 Chorus The Chorus has indeed had a busy yearI With a 38 voice group we got right down to work at the opening of school. Throughout the year we were asked to preform many times. We provided entertainment at the school pep assemblies but our first community preformance was on October 26 when we sang a few numbers at the Masonic Temple. On December 16 we were asked to sing for the Women's Club. On December 20 the Chorus started out for an all day booster trip up the branch where we stopped at Enterprize, Wallowa, and Elgin and advertized our coming Christmas concert by singing parts of it for them. On December 22 the Music Department gave a free Christmas concert where we were host to a packed house. In the early spring we went to La Grande twice to sing for the P.T.A. Con- vention and the Chamber of Commerce. On April 2 we participated in the Music Festival at Eastern Oregon College at La Grande where we sang for the judges and received a 2 or Excellent rating. Betty Baxter represented our school at the Music Educator's National Convention held at Eugene on April 13-16. On April 25, 26, 27 the Chorus and class of 1955 put on an Opperetta The Forest Prince . This is the first opperetta that has been put on in the history of Union High School. The last preformance for the year was the high school graduation where we sang two numbers.
