CLASS PRGPI-IECY In the winter of 1958, getting into my easy chair, I decided to relax by turning on the radio. The music was so soft and sweet I must have gone to sleep, and in my dreams I heard the announcer, Lewis Quickel. say something about the Class of '49 of Union I-Iigh School. Imag- ine my surprise when I heard him announce Conductor Glenn Hoover and his symphony orchestra along with I-Ielen Lackey, his noted soprano. Then, in my dreams, I wandered into a large department store owned by Jimmy Jetton, who had as his very able assistant Sonny Sain. Mary Gilbert was cashier, while Evelyn Carpenter and Doris Hoover were two of the clerks. Since ball playing was always Bob Keener and Ottman Jar- rett's hobby I was not surprised to hear of their playing for the New York Yankees. Blair Davis and Johnny Davis are still in the same old rut. They are now driving Greyhounds instead of Union High Buses. Sarah Kiser and Jean Rhyne are doing secretarial work in Wfashington, D. C. Jack Rhyne and Jacob Reep are making quite a name for themseives as professors in the held of Agriculture at State College in Raleigh. Sidney I-Iouser has followed in the footsteps of his father as a successful farmer and well-known citizen of the community. Ted Goins, one of our outstanding students of the old class, has made quite a name for himself as a famous minister and writer of religious books. Barbara Seagle has now become a member of the faculty of Lenoir Rhyne College as teacher of Bible. Jessie Weaver' is an able manager of the Library there with ease Houser as her assistant. The last of my classmates were accounted for, as I heard someone calling, t'Mary, Maryf, arousing me from my sleep to go to my own Work as manager of Eagleis Dime Store. Pl'0f7l76'fL'SS, MARY' JANE LIZATI-IERIXIAN
