FOREWORD We, the Viking staff, have in these few pages of word and picture tried to capture and bind to- gether some part of the magic of our high school days. It 18 our wish that as time goes by, these pages will bring to you memories of achievement. For the graduating class of 1960, this 18 the end of four years rich in achievement and experi- ence. We will never again enter the halls of union Free as students, but as we leave, we realize that the spirit of our high school will always be ours. DEDICATION We, the senior class of Scandinavia High School, have chosen to dedicate our 1960 'Viking to you, Mr. Lee. Des- pite your many duties and responsibilities you have found time to work with each one of us and have guided us through out our four years of high school. You have won both our respect and our love, for you have been both a teacher and a counselor to us, but most important you have been a friend. We hope that by dedicating this edition of the Viking to you we can repay you in some small way for your thirty years of service to Scandinavia students. FACULTY Mr. A. 0. Lee B. My have is Sheik Ben el-Beloney, end I am the best crystal yezer in two planets. I have just flown in from Arabia to treeiot the future of that w;nderfu1 Olaes of 1960 of Scandinavia High School. Now let's take a 1ieek into my Taqicel eryetel bell. The mist clears--and whom do we have here? Why it is heme other then Donald jurholt. He has taught ?t all the leaoihg universities of the country , including Harvard, but hes deciie? ti oettle dovn and teach at the Peterson Fill School. Don doesn't heve any trouble knowi a his pupils, since eitht out of the fourteeriere his own hide: Next we see the weelt y nuth Leppeh b shine in the Flor- ida sunshine. Having perfected a new systew of typing, Ruthie is now the owner of a chain of hue heee colleges etretchinr, across the land. Now the mists clear and we ire gezing upan mad chemist, Welter Nelson, lighting hie ciwzr with a roll of tiooo bills as he is sitting in his plus office high ehove the s+rhhr- of Chic go Walter etudied yeers to p rfect a new tretquiliZfr. Now the drug firm he has orienized is selling millions of gala lens of it a dey, making Welter quite rich Nert we see the heroic Sandra islbruck choppinq her way through the steaming jun les of Africa. She has become a nurse and is now fighting her way through the Jungle to bring the Sald fol o v ocine to the African natives. Good luck, Sandra! Whooooosh! Looking up into the sky we find Tbm Johnson at the controls of the latest trans-10htinental jet airliner. It is ruiored thete he is the highest raid pilot in history, and even the president of the United States refuses to fly any where unless Mr. Johnson is 9t the controls? i NOW we see m:themeticien Carol Nelson at the blackboard , with chalk in hand. In the audience are host of the'worldis ire t authorities on mathematics. Carol is receiving 9 stand- ing ovation as she has duet proved beyond doubt th t p1 does Egg epual 3.1U15? but 3.1U159! She wine a Nobel prize for her brilTiant discovery. Now bentiover his drawing board, we see world famous architect Ken Zeitlow gutting the finishing touches on his plan for a skyscraper three miles high. However, we see him glancing anxiously at his watch, and we know he can hardly wait to get home to his wife c-.hc1 their 12 kids. Next the mists clear and we see Sally Steinbech relaxing in her Hollywood home. She has married the toy Western star on TV, and now agenda most of her time tthrowing parties for her millionaire friends. One,utwo, nthree, efour, one,ntwo,wthree,-four. What is this? Why it is none other than Diane Trinrud leading her kindergarden class through some calisthenies. She has devoted her life to teaching kindergarden, even though she 13 married to the president of General Motors, and has three sets of twins of her own to look after. Now we see Tom Bestul in his laboratory in them oaeement of his home. He has Just perfected a hydrogen bomb so ?gfetit on . can be shot in cap guns? What won't they think of next! Next the haze rises -- and lo and beholdseit is none tether than Sandra Van Metre, walking in the garden of her chateau in France. She went to New York to become a private secretary, but she met Count Pierre l'Froufrou. It was love at first sight! Thus ends my prophecy for the Class of 1960. I must be back to good old Araby.
