IN MEMORY OF Stephen J. Mehol — October 5, 1967- September 26, 1965 Steve Schwodron — October 30, 1967- Augusf9, 1964 Stephen Mehol was o seventeen year old senior who. after o long bottle with cancer, died on September 26, 1965. He wos a member of the Union-Endicott basketball team and wos very athletic. Besides being on athlete he wos a fighter; but above oil, he was a great friend. Steve wos always willing to listen to your prob- lems,- even though they were probably minute compared to whor he hod to deal with. He hod o very positive attitude about him that you couldn't help but feel when you were with him. He always mode you feel so or ease that you would never be uncomfortable or at o loss for words when you talked to him. Steve will be greatly missed by his family and friends for he added so much to their lives,- bur they will always remember his smile and the way it always seemed to brighten the day. Although he will not graduate with the doss of '66, he will surely be remembered by them, and many others, os o truly special person. Liz Kerchum I become familiar with Steve and his mischievious grin bock in our years ot St. Joe's. We found that we not only shored the some birthday, but also on avid in- terest in golf ond basketball. Breaking Out of our small confined closs or St. Joe's into the relative ’’big rime of U-E wos o fulfillment of one of Steve's dreoms. Another dream wos to be port of the golf ream ond this he wos able to do. If he hod been physically able, he would hove mode the football field ond basketball court his home also. Even though he couldn't fulfill these aspirations, the quality of his lost year in school wos mode greater by just being port of o school like Union-Endicott. Fred Kozlowski Steve Schwodron was o very special friend ond that is how I will always remember him. His cheerful disposition that he wos never without despite his constant pain, will olwoys be a great inspiration to me. GOOD FRIENDS TOUCHING SHOULDERS There’s o comforting thought or the close of the doy. When I'm weory or lonely or sod, Thor sort of grips hold of my very young heorf And bids it be merry and glad. It gets in my soul and it drives out the blues, v And finally thrills through ond through. It is just o sweet memory that chants the refrain: “I'm glad I touched shoulders with you! Did you know you were brave, did you know you were strong? Did you know there wos one listening hand? Did you know that I cored, that I watched ond I prayed? And wos cheered by your simplest word? Did you know I enjoyed the smile on your face, the sound of your voice ringing true? Did you know I grew stronger ond better because I hod merely touched shoulders with you? I om glad that I live, that I bottle ond strive For the place that I know I must fill; I om thankful for sorrows, I'll meet with o grin Whot fortune moy send, good or ill.
