We were 5 and 2 in dual meets in our conference. One of the losses was a one-pointer to Cortland. The J-V team lost only one dual meet and finished tied for first in the west division of STAC. The teamls performance in the large invitations was generally good, we placed very well in most every meet. We placed fourth at the Chenango Valley Run in a strong field of 30 schools, second in the U-E sponsored Conwicke Run out of 24 schools, and our J-V team finished second. The highlight for the season was the Greenman lnvitational in which our varsity was first out of 17 schools and the J-V second. STAND- ING: Trainer Ed Folli, Managers: Gary Scalzo, Bob Morey, Mike Richardson, Dave Butterworth, Statistician Dave Decker. It was obvious from the start that our Long Suit would be defense and that our team would be the least ex- perienced offense and smallest in U-E History, since the PROUD TIGER Defense had nine solid starters llncluding third year starters Moose Longo, Kazzie, and Kocurland the Offense had only a lone return- ing starter, Beaver Shirley. Under the leadership of the Head Tiger, Frgn Angeline, his Staff, and Captain Mike Longo, another AWESOME MACHINE was in the makings as our defending champs rolled through the first four games. Then perhaps due to many adversities such as: the shattering injury of the HEART of the team, Captain Longo: continued flooding, breakdown of the hot water system in the locker roomy and the crippling school crisis, DISASTER struck. A fine Binghamton team came to town and played a superb game. After one of the MOST CONTROVERSIAL calls on League History, the PROUD TIGERS were denied a field goal. However, after this game the Tigers ANNIHA LATED Erie East, Pa., then went on to defeat CV before meeting the best team in Vestal's history land ranked number one ln New Yorkl. These young men carried their HEADS HIGH, and gave it their BEST SHO T. In 17 games, over a two year period, these men rolled up 534 points, while allowing only 161 points, a feat that will perhaps never be matched. Because of all the diversities, Coach Angeline concluded: This was the most COURAGEOUS group of Young Men with whom I have ever been associated. We are so VERY PROUD of them! 194!Activities
