vice principal It is quite appropriate that the theme of the Thesaurus should be CHANGE; for indeed the students have now long adjusted to the necessities of change brought about by the building program of the Union-Endicott School District. The theme, CHANGE, is even more appropriate today as we reflect upon the national scene, for indeed, the whole world is a scene of changes: changing re- ligious and political philosophies, changes in heads of states, the births of new nations, and changes in technology with their sociological impact; one could go on almost indefinitely. Change is essential to progress but should not be confused as synonymous with progress. Only through education and on the tested tracks of experience and tradition can change provide the new form which can be considered progress. Michael E. Gance Assistant Principal

principal At Union-Endicott High School students and teachers alike have experienced a decided change in building, fa- cilities and program. Consequently, it is most appropriate that the theme for the 1963-64 Thesaurus be CHANGE. Change for the sake of change alone is not desirable but change as an outgrowth of improvement is much de- sired. We can be proud indeed that our community is willing to invest time, money, and faith in our educational improvements. However, a school building change or a curricular change cannot guarantee good education. Our community, through its schools, can provide only the opportunity to learn. The rest remains with the student. Even this, then, is worthless unless the student is willing to put into practice that which he has learned. Good education changes people. Change may not always bring about vast improvement, but certainly improve- ment cannot come about without some change. Martin Bortnick, Jr. Principal
