DR. WILLIAM J. KRUM, JR. Superintendent of Schools Hamilton College, A.B. Columbia University, M.A. Columbia University, Ed.D. The 1955 U-E Drama of School opened in September 1952. The actors, 382 strong, start- ed their production with the required con- stants, their chosen major and an elective. Many of their lines were accompanied by music and sports. During the second act of 1953-1954, many became leaders in the student council, in the school clubs, in assemblies, in athletics and in scholastic attainment. The climax, the third act-credits earned, hopes being fulfilled, plans for continued edu- cation, obtaining gainful employment, service for country and active citizenship-culminates the season at graduation. May this production aid the Seniors of 1955 to make wise choices and to live well. MARY L. PITKIN MR. They have their entrances, and one student in his time plays many parts. First the sophomores, lost in a giant build- ing with its maze of rooms and corridors, creep unsteadily about. Then the juniors come upon the scene, full of strange new wisdom, happy as they work and as they play. Then the seniors play their parts-students, athletes, musicians, artists, artisans, Romeos and Juliets. Sophisticated, looking to the fu- ture, living in the present, the men and women of tomorrow. Columbia University Students in a High School may well be lik- ened to characters in a drama. Each has his part to play. But there is a difference. Char- acters in a drama are chosen by a director. But students in a High School are free to choose the parts they will play not only while they are students but in the years following school. Therefore, you should choose wisely the part you are to play. You may elect to play the part of the braggart or the show-off. This leads to disappointment and failure. Or you may elect to play the part of the honest and industrious citizen. This leads to a life of satisfaction and IOY- Yes, school is like a drama.
