President ' s Message This 1950-51 issue of the Stespean appears in the critical period of the National Emergency. Great tension and anxieiy prevail everywhere. Union College assumes an added rcle of service in such times and will seek to maintain, as ever, a full program of courses for all who register. National emer- gency really means- college urgency for all American youth who are prepared to enroll in college. The nation must maintain an abundant supply of educated men and women for strategic posts in this emergency. This is no time for young Americans to loaf or to neglect opportunity to make ready in haste for service in our world crisis. In fact educated citizens are more in demand than ever in our history and thus college education has become a patriotic duty. Each year the students, alumni, and friends of Union College welcome with enthusiasm the appearance of the new Stespean. This year ' s issue is a worthy successor to all the talented productions that have preceded, and I am sure all the readers will join me in hearty congratulations to this year ' s staff. President
