P' 5 MAROON AND GREY enior .History It was a bright and sunshiny day, in the first week of September, 1943, that thirty-two green and gawky travelers set forth on a specially chartered bus, whose destination was 'Freshman City.W The first event of the trip was to elect officers, which were: Driver, Delores Peterson, Co-Driver, James Rench, Steward El Ray Jones, and ticket taker, June McDowell. The Travelers' first stop was a 'Freshman Mixer' dance given in their honor. A few more stops were made and when their destination was reached they were all looking forward to their next trip. For the second trip thirty of these travelers boarded a train for NSophomore Valleyt The officers they elected for this trip were: Robert Kever, Engineer, Fred Tappan, Fire- man, Donelda Jensen, Brakeman, and Delores Peterson, Con- ductor. During this trip they sponsored a formal dance called the 'Snowbal1e? which since has been repeated annually on that trip. The travelers also stopped over for an ice skating party which was enjoyed by everyone. When they finally reached 'Sophomore Valleyn they were quite experienced travelers. Twenty-eight travelers returned to make the trip to 'Junior Heightsu. This time they decided to go by plane and when they reached the airport their plane was ready and wait- ing for them. On the way they elected as Pilot, Donald Swen- sen, Co-Pilot, El Ray Jones, Stewardess, Delores Peterson, and Navigator, La Vern Campbell. 1The first lap was a roller skating party that was held at Coldwater. Then they decided to sponsor a Magazine drive which netted them a neat sum of money for their treasury. During this trip the sold hot-dogs and pop at many football and basketball games. Their next brief stop was to put on the annual Junior play. They chose to present 'Two Minutes To Gon which was dirzcted by Miss Dorothy Spencer and turned out to be a big success. A few weeks later they presented it again at Mr. Grimes' tenth Aniversary party. The last event of this trip was their Annual J-Hop and Senior Banquet. The weary travelers then departed to wait for the arrival of their last trip together. The following fall thirty travelers gathered at September Docks, pier 1946, to wait for the boat that would take them to nSenior Gloryn. The Captain of this boat was Roger Collyer, Co-Captain, Wilbur Grimes, Radioman, June McDowell, and Navi- gator, Donald Swensen. The boat docked first at the port of 'Senior Playu. Here they presented nAsk Me Anothern directed by Mr. Brautigam. This play also turned out successfully. They sailed on joyously the next spring with the fun of senior slouch day and their official skip day, when they stopped at Pokagon Park. During the last of the year they took their long awaited trip around the Nmitten of Michigann. They also enjoyed the J-Hop and Senior Banquet which were given in their honor. Then last, but not least, the good port of NCommencementn was reached, and there they graduated as experienced travelers and depart- ed for their separate journeys through life. They leave behind them their thanks and appreciation to Miss Engstrom, Miss Spencer, Mr. Milligan, and Mr. Brautigam who helped to guide them successfully through these four trips of high school.
