Springtime activities at UC are always noteworthy. This year’s spring activities included the usual race to get the library inventory finished, the frisbee tossing on the front lawn, the seniors getting the gym ready for Awards Day and graduation, the traditional senior cruises back and forth in front of the very school they professed they could not leave soon enough to suit them, and some new items of interest. Mrs. Coats brought a kite in for a demonstration and the class of '88 started the tradition of the “Senior Rock” — Which has seen three paint jobs so far, everyone wants in on the act. Spring Scenes

Secrets pals are an interesting and fun part of school life at UC. Usually it involves student council members and faculty and staff, but anyone who wants to may participate. My secret pal this year was super! Every surprise I got came in a small brown paper bag with a clever note typed on it and was signed “Reeda”. My goodies included a disposable camera, party favors, cheese, jewelry, a nifty little desk set, etc, etc, all sorts of clever and cute items, my favorite probably being my pink “Hot Looks” watch! I early on confronted Mrs. Austin with the accusation of being my “pal” and she denied it, so I looked elsewhere. The next information I received was that my secret pal was a boy! I busily provided boy-type items for my pal and even got “him” an IU sweatshirt for Christmas because I knew he had to be an IU fan! I could hardly wait for the breakfast to find out who the shifty, clever little varmint was! The day finally came, and a big brown paper bag appeared on the table in front of me with a message indicating I was not yet to find out. I stood and yelled, “Reeda, where are you?” and at my side came this little voice that said “Here 1 am!” and I turned around to see picture 4 beside me. What a laugh we had, in addition to a superior breakfast with sausage gravy provided by Jane McGill! — Liz Reed — 1. The faculty never minds coming to school early for the secret pal breakfast. 2. Mr. Lea-hey is thoroughly enjoying his peanut butter roll. 3. Wendy Mock looks askance at her pal's gift. 4. Mrs. Reed’s secret pal. 5. Mr. Goldsbcrry receives some special camping gear. 6. Mrs. Austin and Mrs. Reed in their look-alike shirts and a replica of the famous Hilton Head alligator.
