National Honor Society As you walked into Union City Community High School on that cool autumn morning, you could tell it was a special day. The students were nicely dressed, cheery, and there was a sense of excitement in the air. It was the day of the induction ceremony for the most prestigious organization in the school, the National Honor Society. For ten of the candidates for the NHS, this would be one of the most nerve-racking and important days of their lives. National Honor Society has one of the most unique induction cere- monies of any organization. I sat in the gym bleachers with sweaty palms, shaky nerves and a pounding heart. As Matt came toward me my heart raced even faster! As he got closer and closer, the tension mounted even more. When that long-awaited and much desired tap fell on my shoulder, I breathed a sigh of relief and happiness. My hard work had paid off. I had made it! I was now a member of the National Honor Society. Prom Royalty — Sarah Schcmmer and Brian Caudill Over The Rainbow Prom night — 10:30, May 22, 1988 — you could feel the tension in the air among the king and queen candidates. Brian Caudill was announced Prom king. This was it! “The Prom Queen for this year is Josh Barnes, my date, came to pick me up about 5:30 on the big night. When he walked in the door, I had to take a second look! What a difference a tux made! He looked so good! After a few hundred flash bulb explosions in our faces, we were off to eat steak and shrimp at the Shadows. It was very good, but since my dress was a little tight I couldn’t eat much! We arrived at the gym which had been transformed into the land of OZ with the theme of “Over the Rainbow” I had my doubts whether we (the Junior class) could get it decorated on time, but we did and it looked great. The evening progressed, and it was time for the fateful announcement. “Sarah Schem-mer!” Me? Really? Me? I did it, I had won “Bubba” and I had our dance, and then I danced with Josh who was beaming. What an unforge-table happy night it was for me! Sarah Schemmer I. The Junior and sophomores also enjoyed the prom. 2. Jason Welch and his date make a lovely couple. 3.
