Yearbook Staff This was my first year on the staff, and it was a lot of fun, but also hard work. 1 didn’t realize how much time and preparation went into the making of a yearbook. Yearbook work actually started in the spring as we prepared to sell ads for the fall book. The ads somehow didn’t quite get finished, so the staff had a busy fall calling on (and re-calling on, etc.) businesses and individuals to try to get enough money to produce a book. After most of the money was collected, we decided on a theme which all the sections of the book are to evolve around, and each person was assigned a section of the book to complete. We started collecting pic- tures for our sections and thinking about layouts. The Josten representative met with us early in the year to show us how to set up the pages and we began. There were deadlines to meet, lost pictures and pages to contend with, but it was still fun. It’s exciting to actually create a book and to be responsible for the memories of a whole year. Working with the rest of the staff and Mrs. Reed was great (even though Mrs. Reed got mad when we almost missed deadlines) and I’m already looking forward to helping produce another yearbook. — Andrea Lloyd — Andrea Lloyd posts checks in the ledger. l9S7-'88 Successus Staff Mrs. Reed .. . National Honor Society As you walked into Union City Community High School on that cool autumn morning, you could tell it was a special day. The students were nicely dressed, cheery, and there was a sense of excitement in the air. It was the day of the induction ceremony for the most prestigious organization in the school, the National Honor Society. For ten of the candidates for the NHS, this would be one of the most nerve-racking and important days of their lives. National Honor Society has one of the most unique induction cere- monies of any organization. I sat in the gym bleachers with sweaty palms, shaky nerves and a pounding heart. As Matt came toward me my heart raced even faster! As he got closer and closer, the tension mounted even more. When that long-awaited and much desired tap fell on my shoulder, I breathed a sigh of relief and happiness. My hard work had paid off. I had made it! I was now a member of the National Honor Society.
