Activities Many activities go on here at UCCHS that are fun and exciting and do a lot to promote school spirit. These activities are highlighted on the following pages. One of my favorite activities is spirit days. Students and teachers dress up and do special things to show their school spirit and help the athletic teams get fired up for their games. Some of our spirit days are: twin day, stuffed animal day, vacation t-shirt day, rock t-shirt day and the ever-popular red, white, and blue day. My favorite spirit day is stuffed animal day. — Kathy Adkins 6

Honor Jackets too. This past summer at volleyball camp, Mr. Golds-berry came up and said, “Congratulations, J.J.!”. By the look on his face I could tell that, I too, had earned my jacket! On the first day of school all the students congregated in the gym and Mr. Golds-berry gave his first day announcements. Then he introduced the topic of academic honor jackets and explained about them. He then announced the names of three juniors who were to receive them that day. As he called my name, Mr. Rick-ert, of the Union Trust Co., put my jacket on me. A sense of pride and accomplishment filled me, and 1 knew that all my hard work had been worth it. — Jennifer Jones — Starting in 1984, this process of awarding students for academic excellence has produced 12 recipients. In order to receive an academic honor jacket, one must obtain four consecutive semesters of straight A’s. The jacket, itself, is made of a white, satiny material with the school colors, school logo, and a chevron for every semester of A’s. For each semester of A’s after receiving the jacket, one receives another chevron to place on his or her honor jacket. The academic honor jackets are paid for and presented by local banks, Farmers State Bank and Union Trust Co. Ever since my sister, Ann, received her academic jacket it had always been my goal and desire to have one.
