MARDI GRAS — 1986 Union City sent two representatives to the annual Mardi Gras pageant held at Winchester on September 23rd at the high school auditorium. Ten county school representatives were judged on beauty, poise, personality, and talent. Rosie sang “Love Will Find a Way” and Shaughn presented a modern dance routine for their talent presentations. The pageant and the following parade capped off activities which began last May. Pageant practices and parade appearances filled the summer months, but the girls enjoyed the experience very much. Each contestant was awarded a plaque for her participation in the event. I. Rosie sings “Love Will Find a Way” 2. Shaughn poses in her formal. 3. Rosie’s suit and hat are very chic. 4. The Thursday night pep session, and powder puff football game always kick off the action. The junior girls emerged victorious from the powder puff battle, beating the sophomores in the final game. A Friday afternoon parade is traditional complete with very professional looking floats, representatives from the many organizations and clubs, miscellaneous entries, and a Grand Marshall. The football game follows, highlighted by the crowning of the king and queen halftime. The evening is nicely capped off with a dance at the Northsidc gym where the alums mix with the students. I.
