And then we love to that mysterious realm--yes, upstairs we go! This makes our second year in Junior high, with Mr. Fedzrhoff as our teach- er. Huch time and effort is spent this year preparatory for the great day when we should enter high school as freshmen. After leaving the eighth grade we enter high school, a complete new world with seniors blaming the green freshmen for everything that went wrong For class officers we elected James Haffner as president, Clarence Smith, vice president, Gaylord Jackson, treasurer, and Mary Lu Burger, sec retary Mrs Haffner was our class sponsor After surviving the freshmen year, we pass on to the sophomore year feeling quite superior to the little freshmen By the way, a new face appeared in our class thls year, Herbert Best, from Roanoke The girls, with two years of home economics,Ielt they could cookv ll enough to invite their mothers for a luncheon Incidentally, everything turned out as good ascxmld be expected Our class officers for this year were president, Joan Sicka fus, vice president, Norma Fisher, secretary, Richard Bumgarner, treasurer, Marilyn Pence, our sponsor for this year and the following two years was Miss Rutenberg Entering our junior year, we felt more grown up and climbing closer to our goal Several important events happened this year, first, our play, 'Free Advice,' was given ln October Second,ourclass rings and pins arrived in October to give us something to show off Third, Don Parson joined us the second semester from Wauseon, Ohio Fourth, the junior senior reception was Mid at the bottom of Davey Jones' Locker, QYMCA aquarium! in Fort Wayne Our class officers for this year were president, Marilyn Pence, vice presi dent, Marceille Keplinger, treasurer, Norma Fisher, and secretary, Maxine Carl Now for the history of our last and most important year First, Kenny Herndon, from Jefferson Township decided he wanted to finish b1S edu cation at Union Center Second, we ordered our name cards and lnvitations Third, we presented the play, 'There Goes the Bride ' Fourth, we had our pictures taken by the Cron Leone Studios, who promised fascinating results, and fifth, we were measured for our caps and gowns, which made us realize that our history at Union Center was drawing near its climax A this is golng to press, plans are be1ng made for a 1UH1OT senior, two day trip to Chicago Some of the attractions to be seen will be Navy pier, Lincoln Park Zoo, Drive through the Northwestern and Lovola Unlverslties, Wrigley Field, Merchandise Market Cone of the largest bulldlngs 1n the worldl, Hull House,F1eld Museum, Aquar1um,Imanetarium, soldier Field, Chuge amphltheatre seating 100,000J, The Loop, and Marshall F1eld's store We will stev at the Harrison Hotel off Michigan Boulevard on Harr1son street .Emo arrangements arekming made to see aradhrbroadcast, we are hoplng it will be 'Tre Break fast Club W Both the juniors and seniors are looking forward to this trip This year and the following years a formal banquetwillbe held one vear and 8 trip the next year Our Baccalaureate services w1ll be meld on April 27, and Commencement on May 2 It is with deep regret that we see our high school dave coming to a close and suddenly we realize that we must leave good old U C H S to the future classes, me sincerelv hope that they will enjoy it, and acquire as much knowledge from it as we have C Q ' ' 3 Q . Levs see, I brush the cobwebs off, unlock the trunk Ceven m husband doesn't get into thisjand filet, this 1974 diary Surely I can quickly skim through it before Dick comes Home for dinner January 2, 1974 'Dear Diary, While reading the newspaper today, I ran across an advertisement for a Waitress in 'The House of Burger's ' Mary Burger, a classmate of mine, is sole proprietor I wonder 1f she's a better cook than she used to be in home ec class? nAnd of all people to oe writing the lovelorn column in the paper, Joan Sickafusl In the notes about the editor, Wie said she has 3 glrls She also has one of the smartest homes in Ft Wayne f' Herefs an entry I made on Clarence Smith, January 31 nDear Diary Mable just called me She informed me she just got a permanent yesterday at 'Smlth' Beauty Shop' in Huntington Clarence gives one such expert styling and cava Last time I paid him a visit I had to make the appointment 2 seeks ead of time H surely is popular with the women Heavenly days, here's an entry I made February 1 nwhile llstenlng to my favorite program, 'The City Sl1ckers,' I got the surprise of my l1fe They were introducing their new piano player When he said, 'Marceille hep linger,' I nearly fell off my chair I still can't imagine her playlng Jazz music Why, look at this entry February 18, nl received the most wonder ful letter from Marilyn today She told me she and Bob did get the new farm ing their 2 boys mind 'I also received a letter from Richard Bumgarner,vice president the University of Illinois He wanted us to read an enclosed circular or'The Education of Your Children I sure would like to see him again He has a n who is star player on the Illinois team ' February 20 nHad a very unexpected visitor today, a policeman H was none other than Florian Flum, looking sharp in his uniform and not aged a day He said he came to inform me that I should watch my reckless drlvlng because he wasn't showing any partiality He told me he had a blond under contract, and he seems to thlnk this is the right gal for him What's this? It's marked confidential March 2 HI listened ln on a phone call today, when I heard Maxlne Carl's ring I only dld it to see lf She got her new teaching job She surely deserves it She's been attending Manchegger College and is now ready to start at U C H S It was Mr Rob ert Fr tz that called for her, the new principal at Union now They say he is dolng a good job of taking his dad's place That was a hard position to fill, too I heard Bob tell Maxine that hls father owned the Lesh farm gust north of the school house and he seems to oe taklng life pretty easy He re tired on all the money he saved from teaching n I' S Maxine is now teachlng at Union Here's the one I've been wondering about Aprll 17 nDear Dlary, I found a sale bill today for a sale just 5 miles east of here It was another ah e 6 E a n .
