46 ACTIVITIES 47 Four dars after the opening of school,Saturday, August 5l,ND Boyd took twenty six 4I1boys and glrls to the Indianapolis State Fair There they enjoyed seelnv many 8XhlbltS The last week ln September of this year brought the return of the Bluffton free street fair Wlth this came the annual participatlon of all Wells County schools and thelr bands in the school parade This started our band on a seasonci'play1ng at baU.games and ended by playlng at tne Bluffton muslc festival In September,also, the band, under Mr Blough's supervlslon, traveled to Muncle to see a football game between Ball State and Manchester On October 24,l945,the seniors,then Juniors, presented their flrst class play 'Free Advice One year later, October 25, they presented the r senior play HThere Goes the Bride' The complete list of the cast was Pnyl 11s, a hot headed young bride, Iarllyn Pence, Mrs Curtis, the wonderful mother, Joan Sickafus, Dr Curtis, who cured aD, Kenneth Herndon, Beacdy tne lovable C J kld sister, Norma Fisher, Billy, who was always on the run, Dlck Bumgarner, Anastasla, the Irlsh cook, Haxlne Carl, Officer O'Flynn, who was doin'his duty b'gory, Don Paxson, Natalle, who loved another girys man, l dred and Marcella Cayot, Lewis, groom who had his eye on the future, ROD6Pt Kumfer, Sally, out to get her man, Wilodene Dennis, Tom Eldrldge, who found his one and only, Florlan Flum, and Dinty, the true friend of Tom, Herb Best The story revolved around a hot headed young glrl, Phyllis Curtls The day before the weddlng she found her groom,Lewis,kissing her bridesnald, Natalle Phyllis blew up and told h6WlS she would propose to tne next man sne saw, at that tlme Tom Eldrldge walked ln and Phyllis proposed, Tom ac cepted but Lewls couldn't belleve lt Then she and Lewis planned to elope, Phyllls eloped Dr and Mrs Curtis Just trled to make the household run smoothly Sally was always chasing Billy But Beachy was always doing somethlnv to bother someone Anastasla and Offlcer O'Flynn had an IP1SH romance to end all ronances On March 48, tne Junlors presented their three act comedy mystery play called HPleased To Meetchau Tne characters were ilna Grlm, Ed Bushee, Marcella Boxell, Jlm Anderson, Betty Uartleroad, Guy Shutt, Frank wall, Nell Hoooinvarner, Bob nrtel, Phyllis Wilson, Juanita Baker, and Bill Welkel The sextet was organized in September The members are flrst so pranos, Marllxn Pence, Isabel Borton, second sopranos, Marceille hepllnger, Joan Fishbaugh, altos, Colleen Denney and Evelyn Guy They sang for the Jun ior play and several programs given at surrounding churches Under the direction of Mrs Hinton, a Christmas program was pre sented to the parents and guests of the students. It included numbers by all the grades and songs by the boys and glrls' chorus A vocal solo, nwhite Christmas was given by Dick Thomas nHe Shall Feed His Flocksn was sung a a duet by Isabel Borton and Evelyn Guy A marimba solo, UThe Holy City,H was presented by uarceille Yeplinger Colleen Denney acted as a senate page at lndlanapolis, January 2 Her duty was to dellver any mes ages that came in Rxrthe senators while they were in session frank Nall was a winner in the WOWO Journal Gazette Speech Contesg February 8, he had the speech recorded at wOwO Scholarshlp plns were given to Marceille Keplinger, class valedlc torian, and Marllyn Pence, who was salutatorian, at Commencement exelcises T 1' . .
