Qtbz mnlinbuskp Girls' Basketball The girls basketball team have finished one of the most successful seasons in the history of the school. A splendid spirit backed by good material won them a name in East Tennessee Athletic circles. The girls started their season by taking VVashington College into camp at Erwin to a score of 15-10. This game was valuable as it showed the strength of the team. The next game was with Elizabethton who were easily defeated by the lassies 28-5. Erwin next journeyed to Washington College, where the hardest game of the season was fought. The first half ended 10-4 in favor of Washington College. The last half the Erwin girls came back with a rush and played the college girls off of their feet. At the final whistle the score stood 13-12 with the Erwin girls in the lead. Milligan College was the next victim for our girls. In a hard fought game the college girls were defeated 19-12. p ' The next game of the season, the girls met their first defeat from the Carson- Newman, Parsonetts 26-8. The girls fought hard and could not overcome the lead which the Parsonetts ran up in the first half and in the second half allowed only one field goal. Bluff City next came to Erwin and went home with a 29-12 defeat. Erwin in this game used their entire team. The Milligan College girls came to avenge their defeat on Erwin but were badly surprised by a defeat of 22-11. The next games of the year were in the Upper East Tennessee Tournament at Johnson City. The girls were lucky in their drawing and drew their rival Wash- ington College who were eliminated by Erwin 18-12. Erwin next drew Camp Creek who were defeated with practically the second team by a score of 24-14. By the defeating of Camp Creek put fthe local girls into the Semi-Finals with Holston. This game was also taken by Erwin 25-14. This put the girls in the finals with Kingsport. The final game will not be forgotten by those who saw it, and it will go down in the schools history. As the girls came onto the floor you could see the old fighting spirit in both teams. The game started with a rush and each team fought valiantly for the first half in which the score was 16-14. The second half started off with a rush and Erwin evened up the score but could not keep up the pace. Opal Stallard, one of the stellar guards was seriously injured and removed Page Sixty-seven

Che Jmnlicbuckp from the game, this was a great loss to the Erwin team, and it slowed their playing considerable. In this final period Kingsport forged ahead and as the whistle blew the score stood 19-28 for Kingsport. I The last game of the season was with the Parsonetts of Carson-Newman who defeated Erwin easily by the score of 36-12. Of the twelve games played by the local lassies, nine were clear cut vic- tories. The total number of points for the opponents was 184 to 230 for Erwin. ' The record for the team is due to the able coaching of Coach E. L. Smith with his assistant Pa Weaver and much credit is due to them. .
