dtbz mnlicbuckp Senior Class History QContinuedj ing and supplying our good ship, we were grieved to learn of the calling of five members of the crew to other vocations in life, but indeed glad to know that three new members had signed on to help steer our ship to the port of Fate. On August 25, 19244, we sailed out of tl1e port Happiness, bound for the port Fate, with achievement added to our cargo of hard work. We learned that Admiral Eutsler had been relieved by Admiral Vance. And again we had new ship officers. Captain Harry Shull was given command of the crew with First Mate Ruth Sher- wood and Officer of the Day Agnes Tucker. This part of the journey had its many hardships, sorrows and joys. Our crew was small, our cargo was heavy, and many storms overtook us. This caused many hardships on every member of the crew. Our sorrows were great because two of our crew were left on the half way point. One had chosen another vocation in life and one had listened to the call of the God- dess of Love. And we also learned of the death of the most valiant member of the crew, who had been unable to embark at the port Happiness bound for the port Fate. Our joys were many, because we had had the determination to carry on, and had enjoyed all the happiness of knowing that soon we would drop anchor in the port Fate. there to wait for our shin of Destinv to continue its voyage over the rough and troublesome sea of Knowledge to its final port of Life. And now, dear members of the class of 1924-25. as members of the crew of the ship Destiny, may you always be as true seamen in the future as you have been in the past, and we shall all meet in the final port of Life with happy hearts and a realization that we have given the best that was in us. - -Ed Weaver. the Jrinlicbuckp The Charge Against Ignorance CDue apology to Tennysonj Through each year, through each year, Through each year onward, All in the Valley of Learning Passed a noble band. Forward, you heroes brave! Stand your grounds P' he said: Into the Valley of Learning Passed this nohle band. Forward, the noble band ! Was there a one dismay'd? Not tho, a laggard knew A wise one had blundered. Ours not to make reply Ours not to reason why Ours but to do and die: Into the Valley of Learning Passed this noble band. Education to the right of us, Education to the left of us, Education in front of us Volley'd and thunder'd Under heavy fire and shell, Boldly we passed and well Through the quakes of fear, Into the gloomy mere Passed this noble band. Flash'd our efforts do win, Flash'd our wits to din, Stirring the lazy there, Charging the brave to hear, while All the world wonder'd: Plunged in the battery-smoke Right through the line we broke, Doubt and ignorance Reel'd from our bold attack Shattefd and sunder'd. Then turned they back but not, Not this noble band. Wisdom to the right of them, Wisdom to the left of them, Wisdom behind them We flung and thundered: Stormed at with grit and will, While some gave up and fell, But we who fought so well Came through the stage of fear Back from the age of doubt, All that was left of us- Left of our noble band. When can our glory fade? Oh, the brave fight we made: All the world wonders. Honor the fight we made! Honor will ever be paid- Noble, noble band! -B. P. '25, Page Twenty-eight
