Nixon's trips to China and Russia, the death of two former presidents in less than a month, cease fire in Viet Nam. return of the P.O.W., 18 year old vote---these would seem to be distant and unrelated to peaceful, rural Umatilla on the edge of Ocala National Forest. However far U.H.S. is from these, the transportation and communication of today's world bring these events, their effects and after effects to us almost immediately. As citizens of the present and future, our responsibility is to educate ourselves for coping with the rapid changes in our worlds. Only by improving ourselves can we help improve the world we do and will live in. Our worst mistake is to ignore the present and say All this doesn't concern me now. I'll worry about it in a few years. We're living faster than our parents did and growing up more quickly. Responsibility for ourselves and the future should come more quickly too.
