CLASS HISTORY On September ,k 1949, from the one-room cell of kindergarten came David Hall, Jeff -T|amrick, Bobbie Merrill, Birtie DeMuth, Buddy Mc- Tureous, Carol McCown, Jim Scobie, Charles Tibbals, Stanley Krupski, Bobby Vaughn to meet some of their cellmates with whom they were to spend twelve years of hard labor. These were: Patsy Dykes, Ann Green, Sherry Green, Doris Hall, Jack Harris, Ann Wood, Sam Kemp who were later joined by Barbara Sue Johnston, a transfer from Virginia State Pen. In our second year of labor came Susan Fingers” Wingfield and Gayle Jeep May to add extra hands in digging our way to the third grade. As we broke the surface of cell No. 3, we found awaiting us, Warden Smith. During this term Faye McKinley and Kathleen Vossberg were linked to our Chain-gang. Upon entering cell No. 4, we found awaiting us Patsy Johnston, Dick Collins, and Roy Warren, and in turn we lost one cellmate, Jack Harris, who was paroled for good behavior. Before we could escape to cell No. 5, in swam Fish Traywick and Shorty Leggett. Although we were under the strict supervision of Wardens Kilker and Jarrett in cell No. 5, we continued our rioting with no new additions. Eugene Waterman and Jack Harris (a former member of our social circle) came to strengthen our pull for becoming trustees as half of our sentence came to an end in cell No. 6. The Tth cell, and finally trustees! We were progressing with few riots until Charles Hall and Susie Ryon made the scene. As we walked into cell No. 8, we found awaiting Ray Guenther and Red Williams, two fellow cons accustomed to Warden Lowe's stern ruling, with which we soon became acquainted. As we lost Eugene Water- man (paroled for good behavior), we gained the notorious Nokie Caskey, an even greater problem. Into cell No. 9, forward we went; to greet Warden Sewell and to wel- come Tom Harrison from the Ohio State Pen. Also during this year, David Hall left us for one year of confined solitude in a Miami prison. The tenth year of our sentence was spent in hard labor under Wardens Horst and Hardin. As Shirley Halsey, Kathryn Sheppard, Robert Skipper, and the returning David Hall entered our clan, we schemed and plotted to do all the damage we could before we left for Warden Zellman's block. Warden Zellman's block was quite a change. Because of our good behavior, we were granted a few privileges until Craig Brock and Ginger Payne joined our mighty gang. Under the rule of Wardens Edwards and Westervelt, our sentence draws to an end. We look toward our future with high hopes. Some of us plan to continue our education at Sing Sing, Alcatrez, San Quentin, and other places of cultural arts.
