UttATllXA.HlGH_ScHO i..BfTA.Ct.UB DEDI TO MR. JOSEPH CLYDE STOCK Because he taught us how to look into the worlds in- side the atom, Because he opened up to us the world of light and force and sound, Because he revealed to us unknown vistas in Nature '3 complex realm. Because he pointed the way to understanding of Chem- istry's magic domain. Because he dipped into the future, far as human eye could see Saw the vision of the world, and all the wonder that would be , Because he never was too tired or too busy to help the slowest one to learn. Because his own life was hi s greatest lesson. Because he, like Tennyson's Ulysses, made us want To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield We gratefully dedicate this. Looking back, we see entering the first grade fresh out of kindergarten......Rilly Collins, Timmy Hatfield, Gaynell Marteeny, Martin Strlcklen, Shirley Trew, and Cathy Wlygul. These were joined by Elva Jean Curry, Mary rarnto, Elsie Hall, John Hood, Virginia Lee, Pecgy Pulliam, Clifford Roundtree, Yvonne Vaughn, Gene Williams, Joyce Williams , Carlton Wood, and LaVerne Webb. All were under the stern teacher, Mrs. Hethcox. Then In the second grade Ted Kemp came, liked us and has stayed ever since. The arrival of the third year found us with two new members, Elliott Seabrook, and Mary McCollough. Our fourth year started slow but before we could get out again, Ronnie McKinney had come in from Ohio. Prom here on in we had one new pupil each year. Frank Bains from Crows Bluff came in with Mrs. Kilker. This year Elliott Seabrook and LaVerne Webb got tired of our school and left, both soon to return. Evelyn Anderson come in the sixth grade, Ruby Jane Andrews came in the seventh and was accompanied by our old friend, Elliott Seabrook. Rex Van Buskirk came in the eighth and Roy Peterson in the ninth. Tn the tenth came Sue Locke, and in the eleventh Lillian Lupo. I must tall you that I hava done something that I said I would never do. T have just re- turned from Umatilla, Florida, where I attended a class reunion—which year T'11 never tell you. Darling. I was talked invo this trip by my two good friends, Bains and Peterson, the comedy team, who have just finished their latest picture, THE CROWS BLUF BOYS. Instead of Umatilla, the streamliner stopped in Altoona, a city now, thanks to the Hood Bicycle Factory. My transportation to Umatilla was furnished by the McKinney Auto Service. Mr. McKinney had lent me his own private Cadillac. Mr. McKinney was in Europe transacting a business deal for foreign cars—I'd like to add here that one of these cars will be a special purchase for Virginia Lee, another ex-classmate of mine, who will drive it in the sports car races this season. On the way to town we picked up a hitch hiker carrying a hoe. He had just returned from the orange grove. I nearly drooped my composure upon discovering he was Ted Kemp. They tell me he is the local char- acter—practically a hermit since he was jilted in love several times. The entertainment lor the reunion was superb. Of course you all know Blossom Pulliam and her group of skaters. I've told you about them. They've been in Hollywood several times. Cutie Locke, bubbles Anderson, and Dimples Andrews all are old classmates of mine. The food for the banquet was fit for a king------all prepared by Carlton of the Waldorf. I know him as Carlton Wood. T gathered he took lessons from his mother. The fashion show that went along with the program was put on by Madame CHnry from Paris. Among the models we saw LaVerne Webb and Shirley Trew. Shirley told me that one of the most important seam- stresses was Mary Garnto. The banquet was followed by a dance and it's always a night of heanen to dance to Spike Seabrook and his Drum Rhythm Boys. Again I had the pleasure of watching his feature artist, Foots Collins , do that astounding dance in which everything but his feet move. Then we heard excerpts from Timmy Hatfield's latest book, Jokes for All Occasions. I must stop now and tell you that this whole affair was put on by Lillian Luoo, who makes a specialty of these sort of things. Everything stopped when Mr. Stricklen made his late appearanee—- he is quite a celebrity since he discovered the secret formula for in- serting antifreeze into opange trees, making it possible to lease the Antartic for an orange grove. Mary McCollough was with him. She has made a fortune herself from the Penguin Feather Mattresses she manufactures. Elsie Hall was beautiful when she gave us a song from her latest album—Songs for Lovers. After the dance we drove out to the Shanty Shack owned and oper- ated by Gene Williams----a beautiful place and the most gorgeous wait- resses who they say are carefully picked by the owner himself. Gene told us that most of the food he serves is raised by Terry McCauslin. Many of his employees come to him from the Williams' Employment Agency run by his cousin, Joyce. A real treat was in store for us the next day when we were treat- ed to an inspection tour of the Roundtree Dry Cleaning Establishment. This is the home of the Roundtree Spot Remover----the slogan is A Blot or a Dot, It Hits the Spot. Rocket Vaughn came to the motel that night to try and persuade me to take a trip into outer space with her. I politely refused this fa- mous woman but we did talk about her recent trip to the moon. I had to get back to Hollywood so as I was packing in came Gaynell Marteeny-better known to the world as Warteeny, the Marriage Counselor. We chatted for a while and she told me about Bruce Gilbert, the most hated man in Florida since he invented the Automatic Orange dicker putting all the pickers out of business. T understand that Labor Lead- er Van Buskirk is putting this esse In court to try to outlaw the machine. I must be signing off now. This is Hop A. Hedda Wiygul, always a hop ahead with the gossip, saying goodbye until next week.
