That hurts, Doris shouts, and we look around and see Charles Allison pulling chewing gum out of her hair that he spit in when he missed the window in the first grade. Hmm-m, where is Don? 0, that's right, he didn't come 'til the eighth grade. (Lucky Charles). We see Mary Ann sitting over there with a dunce cap on her head. (I guess she played hooky yesterday.) Jean is sitting quietly studying, and Jo Anne is talking as usual. Except for the addition of Vonice Corbitt in the second grade, the. same old boring people were here until the fourth grade, when Margaret Ann came, and she taught us that you have a better chance in a fight if your hair is cut short. All the girls are trying to learn to flirt because Ray Lucas Just Joined our group and h is sort of bashful. Here comes Emma, maybe sbe can show us how. In the fifth grade we struggled under the vain efforts of Mrs. Lorraine Smith. Luverne Carr and Herman Kicklighter Joined our rank and they had all sorts of ideas. Luverne would roll spit balls by the dozens and Her- man had a new way of shooting them so that they would hit the teacher right between the eyes and make it look like it came from the other side of the room. When Carolyn joined us in the sixth grade, it seemed the class would never quiet down for anything. In the seventh grade Joyce Hollinger, Lois Gibson, and Truman Cook held our interest for long hours at the time telling about their escapades at Altoona Grammar School where they had attended for the past six years. After a few months, Juanita McCollough came and taught us that you don't always have to get your math on time—half the time Mr. Vaughn won't check it any way. (SHE said!) Don joined our group of happy go lucky crazy ikes in the eighth grade and shocked us all on the way back from our class picnic to Eaton's Beach, and right in front of the teacher, too, which incidently was his aunt. Never to be forgotten is the great race that went on in the freshman year among the girls when Jerry Brown came. Who finally won anyway? That bundle of noise and illiterate little boy, Matthew Cross decided he could make a better impression and more noise, in Umatilla High School than in Jacksonville, so he became one of us in the sophomore class. S.C. Bryant, who just couldn't pass biology, became one of us this year, too---- good for us, another football player to add to our list. Who is she? . Matt asks. I don't know, but I'm going to find out, Herman said and when he asks, he finds out her name is Shirley Shaffer. Brother! We didn't know what we were in for. When we came to school as Juniors, our only new addition was Deen Bur- roughs. Lots of things happened now. After much debate, practice and more practice, we produced the play Drums of Death . Our homeroom mothers gave us a picnic and party and one Saturday we gave ourselves a beach party at Daytona. That never-to-be forgotten prom and banquet at the Fountain Inn in Eustis is a memory to us now, because everyone had so much fun. And now we are graduating seniors, 22 in number, after the arrived of Billy Phillips from Crescent City. So many things have happened this year that I can't begin to tell you about them—Just look at the senior calen- dar. :o o Walking into the door of his veterinary clinic in our nation's capitol, we see Senator CHARLES ALLISON, the world's only combination politician and horse doctor. Out in the gigantic forest of the West, S.C. (Paul Bunyan) BRYANT fells another huge Sequoia tree with his bare hands, in his capacity as feller, foreman, and saw miller for the Bryant-Brown Lumber Co. Following along behind is forester JERRY BROWN, master tree ring counter for the company. Deep in the recesses of a university laboratory we see MATT CROSS ab- sorbed in study. He is trying to figure out why Edison was shocked when he flew a kite. Driving his helicopter in the hills of Tibet is the great religious and social reformer, HERMAN KICKLIGHTER, studying the Tibetan religious methods for his use in America. Leaning back in his catfish-hide chair we see the famous college foot- ball star, RAY LUCAS, managing his thriving fish business—a big business, in central Florida. Sitting at a soda fountain in a large army station we see Cor- poral WILLIAM PHILLIPS celebrating his promotion from P.F.C., after only thirty years in the service. Way down yonder in Argentina on a ranch about the size of Texas, we see DON STOOPS, veteran cattle raiser consuming a four inch beef steak as his midnight snack. Making anothier of their many tours of the country, JOYCE HOLLINGER and JUANITA McCOLLOUGH are seen demonstrating their new techniques as home economics advisor and physical education experts respectively in capacity as renowned professionals on the subjects. Working in the expensively furnished offices of the wealthiest men in the country, are seen LOIS GIBSON and MARY ANN HETHCOX. They hold the en- viable positions of personal secretaries and business advisors. Out in the little town of Hollywood, California, the fashion experts ooh and aah as DEEN BURROUGHS, top flight model wearing one of the latest fashions designed by the famous clothing expert, JEAN MARABLE, does a turn out front. Who is this we hear rattling off words so fast on the telegraph key? It is none other than Miss SHIRLEY SHAFFER, world reknown master of the magic keys. Leaning over their back yard fences is heard the loud voices of CAROLYN ANDREWS and VONICE CORBITT declaiming the scandalous rise in the price of diamond-studded mink. If someone asks the best place in town to eat, naturally you will point to LUVERNE CARR'S Little Ole Greasy Spoon, extolled for its good food by dozens of masticular-dietary experts as the best joint this side of heaven. After only having gone to college and nurses' training school for 15 years, we hear a clatter of spoons as Miss JO ANNE LEE serves in her capa- city as orderly in one of our small Georgia clinics. Going to faculty meetings, grading papers, getting tacks in the seat, and being insulted by the pupils, are none other than the eminent child care authorities, DORIS POWERS and MARGARET ANN NORTON, fighting for exis- tence in one of our small town schools. Wearing her green sunshade and sleeve garters, is our little Miss EMMA RIGDON, news-editor for the Times and co-owner of the paper. ;o August 31---School began at U.H.S.
