FORE WORD The 1957-1958 school year was one of growth and activity for Ukiah Union High School. Our student body grew to over 1150, the faculty and staff included more than 70, and the campus was enlarged to include some 22 acres. For the first time we used our beautiful new cafeteria, we saw the completion of our large bus garage, and the start of construction on the two-story science and classroom building. This was our first year in North Bay League ath- letic competition where our teams performed most creditably. As the year progressed, we participated in the many class functions: there were the games, dances, rallies, the Carnival, the Fashion Show, Public Schools Week, our many clubs, organizations, and other activities. Participation in these things, designed for our en- joyment and recreation, was also instructive, and gave us needed diversion after our class- room work. For you students of THE Class of 1958 this was THE year--the one which will always hold a unique and irreplaceable spot in your memory. This book records your extra-curri- cular activities, but more importantly the imprint of your classroom work is recorded in your minds. This process of growing in age consists of various steps of achievement, an important one of which is high school graduation. From here, your paths will follow widely divergent courses. Your high school years can, with your own effort, provide each of you with a fund of good memories, as well as training to fit you for proceeding to whatever step of achieve- ment you choose for yourself for the future. Life will present many choices, decisions, and problems along with its opportunities. May you use good judgment in facing them. The future is up to you. Robert E. Sondergard - 3 -
