“an is L. to R.: Anna Mae t, JoAnna Howard, Marilyn Forbes, Bevb erly Rogers, Eloise Jarvis, Beverly Metzger, Donna Williams, Elizabeth Sheff, Barbara Male, Elnor Rice, and Coach Mr. G11- christ. gfaeeazem The girls of Ukiah High School started practicing volley- ball November l7, with Anna Mae Flint as captain and Mr. Gil- christ as coach. Of the ten girls in high school, eight took an active part. Later, because of too few girls, the two eighth grade girls joined the team, making eleven in all. The girls on the team were: Anna Mae Flint, Elizabeth Sheff, Donna Williams, Jo Anna Howard, Elnor Rice, Barbara Male, Eloise Jarvis, Marilyn Forbes, Beverly Metzgar, and Beverly Rogerd. On November 24, after just a few days of practise, the team journeyed to Umaplne to play its first game. The girls were excited and d1dn't think they had much chance of winning, with so little practise. After arriving there, the Umapine girls said they hadn't had much practise, either, so that gave the Ukiah girls a little more confidence in themselves. It was a fast game, with both teams playing hard, but Ukiah emerged victorious. Umapine came here to play the team a return game on Dec- ember 5. The game was much the same as the first one, except that both teams had more practise. Umapine won this game. On March 9, Ukiah played the Long Creek girls on their floor. The team had bright hopes and played hard, but were defeated 28 to 38. It is their hope to be able to play more games next year. Since they won't lose any girls through graduation, they feel that they should have a better team.
