UINTAH KICK SCHOOL - VERNAL, uTaH s Lithographed by COMMUNITY PRESS Provo, Utah « 2 A. (ITES REFLECTIONS The reflections of a Ute remind him of the excitement of contests, the triumph of success, the acceptance of loss, the satisfaction of participation, the appreciation of friendships, the reward for achieve- ment, the disappointment for indifference or procrastination, the awareness of growing up. The reflections of a Ute are feeling gratitude for the assistance of advisors and fellow students, knowing the kinship of student body unity, working for the compensation of personal effort, finding himself, and recognizing the worth of others. The reflections of a true Ute are satisfying; his heart is warm and he smiles. 3 4 COMTEAITS Student Life.................. 6 Administration............... 14 Studentbody Officers......... 22 Studentbody Seniors.................. 46 Juniors.................. 76 Sophomores............... 88 Organizations................102 Activities...................124 Spring Sports................152 Honors.......................162 Index........................174 Ads..........................178 After!!! 8 Up and up with school spirit!!! to Look, look Mr. Atlas!!! 13 Mr. Lee R. Pettey has strived to reach every student and touch their lives that they might reflect back upon their high school years with a feeling of accomplishment and contentment. 14 The school board works diligently to keep the students satisfied while they are obtaining an education. The steps they take to help us will reflect on each student and make him one of outstanding character. They realize that many of the traits, habits, and friends acquired while in high school will reflect not only on each of us and on our lives; but also on the world of tomorrow which is placed in our hands. 15 Chad Orton Counselor FACULTY Valda Massey Counselor. They represented the countries of Romania and the Netherlands in the General Assembly. Undoubtedly, the hardest part of this year’s effort was submitting resolutions that would be accepted by the convention, its final agenda. 121 FORENSICS This year's debate topic has resolved that Congress should prohibit unilateral United States military intervention in foreign countries. This year’s Forensics class included debate, oratory, extemporaneous speaking, legislative forum, and radio speaking Mark Rasmussen and Doug Merlin formed an outstanding debate team which took first in the Regional meet, held in Altamont. and took a superior rating at the State tournament, beating the best debate team from Wasatch. Time seemed insignificant. Moments passed Days rushed by But there was always Sunshine. Experiences? Oh, yes. Remembered well was A way of life. Studying till 3 A M. Getting that first formal. Growing up. Wanting something badly— perhaps unattainable, But it is still yours if only in dreams. Uintah, We have loved you. To you we will always be true. A tear. Why must it end — so soon? To the sophomores Timid at first Now they've had a taste — Delicious. Now they know the flavor in her days The spice of her spirit— They like that taste. The Juniors— Knowing what Uintah stands for But not understanding exactly. Uncertain in ways Yet willing to try— to work. They are so lucky They get to return. The class of 1970 — Mighty Seniors An inseparable part of Uintah Never to be forgotten — never to forget. Three years Three full, happy years. A growth from Youth — To Maturity. Companionship — So much to look back on But more to look forward to— They must go on. September to May sped by too fast. Honors given Trophies awarded Glories attained. But more than that — for within these walls A reason was found to live— For the cause’ of precious Uintah High. SENIORS Abegglen, Owen 67, 117 Adams, Debra Jean 57, 129 Allen, Ralph 74 Allred.
