UINTAHN 1968 UINTAH HIGH SCHOOL Vernal, Utah TABLE of CONTENTS HONORS Page One forty-four SPORTS Page One twenty ACTIVITIES Page Ninety-six UP WITH PEOPLE It happened just this morning; I was walking down the street — The milkman and postman And policeman I did meet, And in every window and Every single door I recognized people I had never noticed before. People from the Southland And people from the North, Like a mighty army I saw them coming forth. Twas a great reunion Befitting of the king; Then I realized people were more Important than things. Invite everybody; there are some bad and some good, But don't let anybody Start attacking peoplehood. Love them as they are, But fight for them to be Great men and women As God meant them to be. Up, up with people; You meet 'em wherever you go. Up, up with people They are the best kind of folks we know. If more people were for people — All people everywhere — There would be a lot less people to Worry about and a lot more people who care. PRINCIPAL Lee R Pettey Mr. Pettey is in his third year as principal at Uintah High School. It will only be a few short weeks until this years students will be separated. Some faces we will never see again. No matter where you go I want you to know I deeply appreciate all efforts in my be- half, and would like, to express my thanks to all for a very wonderful year. May God bless you, Les Mecham Les Mecham President I am pleased with studentbody activ- ities this year, and I am particularly pleased with student support at these activities. Through student support we were able to accomplish much more than if we had been without their support. It's a great feeling to know that you have the whole studentbody behind you. It's been a big responsibility this year serving in Student Council, yet I have appreciated having this opportunity. This followed a highly successful regular season schedule in which the team was undefeated in dual meets. This year's championship followed second place finishes in the previous four years and was consequently very satisfying to the coach, the team, and the stu- dentbody. The seminary students wanted a fireplace to be built in the new building, so they, with their teachers, hauled all the rock for the fireplace. They also sponsored the Birthday Calendar Program that year to raise money to cover the cost of labor on the fireplace. The total cost of the building was $27,984.55. The building was dedicated on September 18. 1955. Sterling W. Sill offered the dedicatory prayer He asked that this will be a place of peace and joy and hap- piness to all those who come here, and that the great lesson of right may be imparted unto them. He also prayed that those who come here to learn may feel the influence of this place that it will be a house of worship.” JUNIOR SEMINARY- The first seminary classes in Vernal were held dur- ing the winter of 1923- 24 It was first known as the Uintah Stake Semi- nary, but later the name was changed to the Ver- nal Seminary. The first seminary building was built just east of the Stake Tabernacle. The present Junior Seminary building was built dur- ing the summer and fall of 1937. The contract called for $19,644. It was dedicated by Elder Melvin J. Ballard on April 24, 1938. Lithographed by COMMUNITY PRESS Orem. Utah 2 Cover portrait done especially for the yearbook by: ALVIN BEGAY.
