THE TO UINTAH N UINTAH HIGH SCHOOL Vernal, Uta.li Should you ask me, whence these stories? Whence these legends and traditions, With the odors of the forest, With the dew and damp of meadows. With the curling smoke of wigwams, With the rushing of great rivers. With their frequent repetitions, And their bold reverberations. As of thunder in the mountains? Listen to this Indian Legend, Listen to this song of the “Utes”! Ye whose hearts are fresh and simple, Who have faith in God and Nature. Who believe, that in all ages Every human heart is human. That in even savage bosoms There are longings, yearnings, strivings, For the good they comprehend not. That the feeble hands and helpless, Groping blindly in the darkness. Touch God’s right hand in that darkness And are lifted up and strengthened;— Listen to this simple story!!! I -;iA j 3 c3 ooaJlA. 4 OFT. IN THE STILLY NIGHT Thomas Moore EDITOR: Oft, in the stilly night, Ere Slumber’s chain has bound me, From Memory brings the light Of other days around me: The smiles, the tears, Of boyhood’s years, The words of love then spoken: The eyes that shone, Now dimmed and gone, The cheerful hearts now broken! Thus in the stilly night, Ere Slumber’s chain has bound me, Sad Memory brings the light. Of other days around me. When I remember all The friends, so linked together, I’ve seen around me fall, Like leaves in wintry weather, I feel like one Who treads alone Some banquet-hall deserted, Whose lights are fled, Whose garlands dead. And all bet be departed. Thus in the stilly night, Ere Slumber’s chain has bound me, Sad Memory brings the light Of other days around me. Deanna is loved by all who know her and has a very pleasing smile to everyone. She did a very cute dance for her talent and pleased everyone as she always does. 105 We, the undersigned, the illustrious Senior Class of Uintah High School, feared far and wide for nonsense and such, feared that we are not sane in our actions, admitting that our minds are a little unsteady—far be it from us to know—do hereby certify, swear, and attest that the following document is the last Will and Testa- ment drawn by us, declaring null and void all other wills made by the same. We the seniors give . . . To the school, as a whole, our industrious uselessness. To the juniors our methods of getting out of classes. To the faculty our obedience in class, and our hails and farewells. To the following individuals named we bequest: I, Rondo Sullivan, will Bart “WELK” Johnson the school song. I, Sandra Freestone, will leave my hobby of collecting worms to Janet Colton and Colleen Jacobe. I, Joan Ellsworth, will be Joan Christensen. I, Merlyn Watkins, will leave the females of U.H.S. in a daze . . . namely Da Shel Evans. I, Colleen Feltch, will take Bob for better or for worse. I, Alaina Gardner, will Maureen Eaton to Dale Johnson next year. Someone has to take care of her, and I won’t be here to do it. I, Carolyn McConkie, will leave my roller skating ability to Janet Clark hoping she can get all the wheels going the same way at the same time. I, Allen Gilbert, will leave happily married never to return. I, Carolyn Goodrich, will my geometry book and all the headaches to Annette. I, Larry Gotfredson, will my kissing ability and the better half of my brains to next year’s seniors. I, Janice Gramer, had better take everything with me because I’ll need it all. I, Lorna Hullinger, will my disability to “sluff” to Donna Luck and Judy Smuin. I, Elaine Humphries, will all my backaches and leg aches to the next year’s “Slim Gym Class.” I, Carolyn Hatch, and Barbara Davis, will our ability to talk continuously to John Sadlier. I, Juanita Busch, will my laugh to Jeanine Robertson and April Moss, they may divide it between them. I, Doug Hatch, will due to the circumstances beyond my control, stick around for a while. I love it! I, Dan Miracle, will my ability to polish basketballs to anyone who gets the headache of Basketball manager, and my church key to Jimmy Chivers. I will . . .if she will ... go steady. Jim Lube. I, Raema Coltharp, will be back for what everyone else leaves. I, Niles Mott, will the rest of my life to Connie. I, Connie Wardell, will nothing, I am taking him with me. I, Doug Wall, will nothing because I need everything I have to get out of here. I, Carol Lee Bennion, will my singing ability, which is not very good, to Vivian Allen.
